While I'm in getting caged...
I have my cage scheduled to be built by Piper Motorsport around mid-January, and was looking for any other add-ons or useful bits you folks might suggest. Here's what's on the list so far:
IT legal 8 point cage
NASCAR bars
Petty Bar
Window net tabs
smoting switch tab (Edit: *$%#@ filter. You know, the one that turns off all the electricity)
seat frame fabrication
sun-roof tabs for attachment
I plan on an FIA approved seat, so don't need a seatback brace.
Anything I've forgotten?

if you've got the budget for it, Mitch will be happy to install a beautiful fuel cell in there for you.
cheaper: how about provisions for a fire system? I dunno exactly what all is involved, but you might want to plan for it now (switch(es), nozzles, bracket for bottle, etc.)

you may want to reconsider the petty bar if you plan on having any instructors in there between now and when you do the comp school.
Oh and theres no "filters" that deduct % from your user rating. FYI.

True. smoting smoting smoting Burn Burn.
True. But just try to type "k i l l switch" without the spaces. The language filter changes it to "smoting switch".
one more suggestion - let mitch install your belts also, both sides. The sub belts will require bolting into the floor w/ a backing plate, not sure on your lap belts.

I had Mitch install my belts, fabricate a seat back brace, install the smoting switch bracket, install the window net, remove the steering lock.
My car is going in right before yours Jerry.. Just standard cage with Nascar bars drivers side, no petty bar (for DE)... he is also putting in the brackets and tabs for the window net

A dash bar if it fits would be nice (not sure if there is one in the other CRXs he's built).
Along with the seat frame fab, have him incorporate the belts (do not use the stock floor mounts, they are too far back). Weld some tabs on the seat mount or drill and reinforce holes in the unibody.
Fuel cell and related stuff. By no means required, but might let you run less fuel in the car before starving (not sure how the CRX does in that respect, the RX-7 requires 1/3 tank to make it through T5 without hickups). Also, even if you are not doing fuel cell now, have him make the cage so that it protects the tank area.
Fire system - they are easy to install, do it yourself, no biggy.
Window net - make sure it is permantently (not really, but not the buckle side) attached on the bottom and buckles up top. Mine is the opposite (hang down, buckles on bottom) - it's a real pain to climb out the window with this setup.
Sunroof - you mentioned tabs to secure it. Why not reskin the roof - wouldn't that get more weight off the top of the car?

Don't you have a Autopower race roll bar? Are you just adding onto that or are you selling it? If so, let me know, I'd be interested.

Nice, whats next the filter replaces it with "Vtec 0wnZ jo0" I can go to clubSi for that crapsmoting is filtered, yet cursewords are unfiltered. nice.

Well thanks everyone for the suggestions. Guess I'll have to squeeze the piggy bank a bit harder and see if there's a few more pennies in there.
...and .RJ, you should be served with the restraining order any time now.

Seat mount
Place to hang helmet
Additional rear view mirrors if you like
BTW everyone...there's been some misinformation passed around that I think I might have been a part of. There was rumor circulating that NASCAR barrz are now legal for the passenger side. I've been told this is not the case for Improved Touring, but is the case for Touring (T1 and T2 I suppose).
Maybe Kirk will chime in on this...my SCCA membership went away a while ago and I'm no longer getting SportsCar.

SCCA Comp Board. Go figure.
Jerry-
If you want to look at mine, I just picked up my '88 Si from Mitch on Friday. Most everything I had done has been mentioned previously. Here's what I had done:
o 8-pt IT-legal cage w/ Nasscar door and Petty bar
o Mount and seal sunroof--it's welded to the roof as well as to the cage at four points and se
o Mount and wire smoting switch
o Aluminum panel for passenger door
o Mount Phoenix 11lb 3-nozzle fire system w/ push cable
o Window net
o Front tow hook
o Brackets for Longacre 14-inch convex rearview mirror
o Mounting for Sparco Evo seat (incl. seatback brace-- not necessary w/ this seat but I have my reasons)
o Harness mounts
o Bracing for rear crossmember -- this is where the rear lower control arms mount there have been issues w/ stress-related failures.
o Extricate TONS of rust under the plastic rocker panel covers
I probably should have asked him to do the steering wheel lock but completely forgot. I figure I have a few weeks to work on it.
Mitch (and Jed) do great work and my safety is worth every penny they charged. I'd go to him again in a heartbeat.
I don't have any pics yet and the car is currently w/ my mechanic in Columbia. If you want a gander I'll have the car at Summit on Friday for the last FATT giving the suspension a little going over before I ship the head/intake manifold/header up to King on Monday or Tuesday.
