Summer is here, I'm working, making money, and looking to buy a car so I can finally get on the track. I've been eyeing (sp?) a 92-95 Civic Si for quite a while because - it's fun stock, it's nice enough to be proud of, and it can be a comfortable daily driver (unfortunately classes badly). I've now been searching around a year now and still have had no luck finding one so I may begin looking for an '88 CRX Si. I have never driven the CRX but I hear it's a pretty damn fun car, only problem being I'm 6'1. Anyone my size have any experience in one?
My main question is: I'm looking for a comfortable daily driver, NOT butt ugly, fun on the track, reliable, can fit a bike in the back, and costs a maximum of $5k. Any ideas?
Note: I've posted this in other forums and always get the same "get a VX/CX and swap a b18c5", if it were that easy I would... However money is a big factor here, I need to be able to afford some HPDEs!
Thanks to all that respond! and Peace!

I bought a 92 Si in good condition for $3800, which I still thought was pretty steep. I bought this car with the sole intent of OWNING my neighbor in autorossing this season. Its a VERY fun car to drive, and I can't wait to mod the suspension.
The car is pretty damned roomy, suprisingly, you won't have any trouble fitting a bike in if you fold down the seats.
Its in the shop this weekend, getting some minor bodywork done. Then next comes the suspension just in time for the autox'ing....
I give my 92 Si a
G'luck with whatever you decided to do.

If you can appreciate a car that doesn't have much power, but is a lot of fun to toss around, I'd suggest you consider a 92-95 Civic DX Hatch with manual transmission, and just tweak the suspension up a little, and throw on some 15" rims with something sticky in a 205/50/15. You're not gonna fade anyone on the highyway, but you might be surprised just how quick it'll scoot in 1st gear, and they're a ball to toss around. Plus, when you can afford it, it's a great platform to start building a real track monster later. And you definitely can't beat the price.
The only problem is, it can be made fast, but no matter how hard you try, it'll never really be a "nice car".
But think of it this way. I have a 91 NSX. And I love my civic to death. It's got a bone-stock drivetrain with 134k miles, no A/C, no power steering, no ABS, and drum rear brakes. With TE37s, 205/50/15 AVS-i's, and some suspension mods (springs, shocks, swaybars), total cost of the car is around $5500 (got a lot of stuff used), and it's really, really fun. And also, you don't have to put in a B18C5 to make that thing haul. At least out here, you can find shops that'll do a complete B16A swap for about $2200, and if you can find a good motor and do the swap yourself with friends, it could probably be done for $1500. And 160 hp in that car would be nothing to scoff at.
Might also want to invest in a quick-release steering wheel hub as theft deterrent, though.

Just make sure it doesn't quick-release when you're driving.Might also want to invest in a quick-release steering wheel hub as theft deterrent, though.

Heh. I wonder what a cop would say if he pulled you over, and you pulled off the steering wheel and shoved it behind the passenger seat, so when he came up to the car, there was no steering wheel. hehe.

I'm 6'2" own 2 of them. daily driving is ok; track use have to pull the seat forward and lay it back some for helmet clearance. If you are long of torso, you may have more clearanmce issues. Damn fun track car with a few mods. If you're at Summit next weekend look for me in X13 for a test fit and drive around the pits
Sounds good, I'll see you there.
I'm 6'2" and have don't have much of a problem with my 94 si. I would recomend the si if you want to stay in the stock class.
