Default Trailers, trailers, trailers...

So this year the price of steel went way up, and so did the price of new trailers. Thank you, grand-master Bush.

Does anybody have a gently used trailer for sale in Northern VA? I'm in the market for one, and I am starting to call around the trailer dealers - between 2 and 3 grands for a full deck trailer. I really don't want to spend quite that much, I was thinking more along the lines of less than $1500

I checked ebay of course, and there are some scary looking hunks of metal out there! Anybody have any leads, tips, or even a trailer you'd want to get rid of? Come on, you know you need to upgrade to an enclosed trailer!

thanks

Yikes! I think I paid $1550 for mine brand new. Full diamond plate deck and dual axle electric brakes.

I guess that thing has damned near doubled in price. Maybe I should sell it?

I don't know if these guys are still cheap, but my brand new, 18', brakes on both axles trailer was $1520 about a year or so ago.

Give them a call:

Yeah, I'm kind of hating my decision to sell mine last year. As usual, "perfect timing." I went to a local place around here and he wanted $2700 for a trailer, and told me prices were going up next year.

Kraftsman trailers here in NC, according to a friend, still has reasonably priced trailers, around $1700 or so. 336-824-1114.

Hilwood trailers:
16ft full deck $2530
18ft full deck $2850

that's with brakes on ONE axle, and a breakaway box.

My dual axle brake 18ft full deck was only 2k 2 years ago! Went up 850$?

Have you tried Ebay, there are often nice ones on there..

watch local classifieds and trader papers.. after 3 months of looking, we found a 1 year old used once dual heavy duty axle, dual brake, 18 ft diamond deck for $1500..

finding one that cheap immediately would be "very lucky"..

Called Hilwood back, they have two brands of trailers...

the "nicer" ones:
16ft : $2530
18ft : $2840

the "cheaper" ones:
15ft: $2095
18ft: $2295

Not sure what the differences are, I could go over and take a look. I'm also checking out ebay, but nothing tempting in VA at the moment. Since I have until January to get one, I can afford to look around for a good deal.

Sorry I am not any closer or you could borrow my nearly new trailer as it simply sits next to a barn and oxidizes until the racecar gets completed next Spring I hope. I borrowed several different trailers for the first five or six years I raced before I bought my own.

More consequences of the huge spike in steel prices.

There's a place in the middle of Missouri that sells some pretty cheap good-looking trailers but it's in Missouri.

Remember that you don't need much Seabass. You're only toting around a sub 2000lb car. Anything that is *safe* will do just fine.

Now if you plan on upgrading to a BMW or Corvette in the future, go ahead and get a beefy one.

Scott, who has a whole lot of extra trailer capacity over his ITC car.

I just got done buying a used one year old 18 ft with a 2ft beaver tail 7000lb dual axles w/ brakes on both and a warn 8000lb winch for $2,450, but I was searching for month and all I found were trailers in the 2800 range. Steel is expensive!

I don't know the details of this trailer, but the guy might be willing to sell the trailer separately from the sm. It doesn't hurt to ask since he only wants $1,000 for the trailer:

Seriously - call Kraftsman. Last time I talked a 16' full deck w/brakes on one axle was as Karl said - less than $1700. Seems like steel prices haven't affected these guys much.

3 years on mine and it's great. It *is* overkill for an ITC car, but, more is better, right?

There's no way your trailer is 3 years old in that picture. Man, it looks great (better than my 2 year old trailer...and I don't get any rain).

Chris, yeah if you could PM me a phone number and a name, that would be great.
I called Kraftsman and they quoted me $1700 with a breakaway box for a 16ft full deck. So far, that's worth the 5 hour drive. We'll see what Anchor sales can do for me.

thanks ya'll for all the inputs.

Oh it's three years old alright. But...this is Whitney. He's probably got a spreadsheet listing every time he's gone outside and rattle-canned the trailer so it always looks good as new. (Sorry Whitney, I had to...)

Anyway, the Kraftsman trailers are sweet. I'll be getting one if I get another open trailer.

Ya know, since Kraftsman is still able to sell for cheap...one wonders if some of the other trailer vendors are sticking it to us. "Price of steel is high" was all in the news not too long ago...maybe they're just trying to take advantage of that publicity?
