Timing devices
What timing devices? A personal system to time yourself or a system like a club or region would own to time an event?
JACircuits makes one of the top systems and our region recently bought their top line beam timing system that goes straight to computer and printouts and is nearly hands off. The sad part is that they sold their old system on Ebay for probably under $100 though it cost over $2000 not really that long ago.

The JACircuits thing you talked about is exactly what I'm looking for. Do you know where I can buy them other than ebay? Thanks

You can also use a Hot Lap timing device. They go for about $275, if all you want is your own times. There are others including the AMB unit-but the stationary control and recording unit is quite pricey. Most race courses are using this buried wire system anymore. Just some suggestions.
JACircuits is owned by John Carrier (sp?) who is a national level autocrosser (a CMod driver I think) from Northern Indiana or Michigan or so. I don't know how to find the company other than looking for him through the SCCA or Solo II ranks.

Those systems (AMB, etc) are in-car transponder systems - used commonly at club races. I've never seen them used at autocrosses - probably because each car must have a radio transponder installed. Most of the autocross systems use a laser to track starts and finishes.

For auto-x there are 3 main systems:
JACircuits
RaceAmerica
TagHeuer
But individuals usually do not buy these; they are purchased by the club that hosts the event and used by everyone.
Maybe what you are talking about is a Geez cube; it's a combination accelerometer and computer software that will analyze your run and tell you where you are using your car to its limits.
