REDLINE AND MODIFIED MAG TEAM UP FOR AMERICA'S FIRST
OFFICIALLY-SANCTIONED TIME ATTACK SERIES

Your toughest opponent is not the smack-talkin' punk from the other car club. It's not the smug rich guy with the expensive modifications who won't stop bragging. It's not the
old fart who's been "doing this since you were in diapers". At the
REDLINE/Modified Mag TIME ATTACK Series, the battle for bragging
rights is between you and the clock!
In an unprecedented collaboration between two of the strongest forces
in grassroots motorsports, REDLINE Track Events and Modified Magazine
have come together to bring you America's first officially-sanctioned
TIME ATTACK! Coming November 6th to Spring Mountain Motorsports
Ranch's new 4-mile road course, drivers and tuners alike will be among
the first to push the nation's fastest machines to the limit on what
is now the longest road course in the Western United States!
With classes ranging from Street, where daily drivers reign; Modified,
for tuners with more ambitious modification; all the way up to the
no-holds-barred Unlimited class, the REDLINE/Modified Mag TIME ATTACK
Series brings fierce motorsport competition to drivers of any skill
level and tuning budget. Thanks to the advanced timing systems used by
REDLINE Track Events, cars compete one at a time, so drivers get their
chance at pushing their vehicles as hard as they can muster, without
worrying about the dangers inherent in wheel-to-wheel racing.
Car, driver, tarmac, and adrenaline. This is only the first of many
REDLINE/Modified Mag TIME ATTACK events, so visit the website at

Maybe Redline'll balance it out a little?
Maybe Redline'll balance it out a little?
So... how exactly is this "AMERICA'S FIRST OFFICIALLY-SANCTIONED TIME ATTACK SERIES"? SCCA and NASA have been running Time Trials for some time now. This sounds a lot like SCCA Solo I Trials, which has been obsoleted by their Time Trials program (a lot more fun, with more track time and more flexibility).

damn, not that i was interested in attacking anything, but i sure would like to drive spring mountain.
it's a shame that the car's being parted out as we speak, and there's no replacement DE sled for oh, another 6 months or so
also, c'mon guys, you act like you've never read a press release before. once you cut to the bone you'll see that a) it's a redline event, and b) it's seat time. that's good enough for me.

Wow, you guys are BRUTAL!
But really, it's all fine.
This Time Attack is different then a time trail race.
Although there are similarities, the Redline: Time Attack is unique in that we're setting the stage for time trail racing that will be much more affordable, more engaging, and more main stream then it has ever been before.
These Time Attacks will be much more then sending out run groups and then crowing the fastest laps of the day. These are Time Attacks and you don't get the luxury of finding your fast laps whenever you happen to get a good lap in. You only get a few shots at it, and that's it. There will be plenty of track time for practice, but your Time Attack lap is all that will count, and you only get 3 - 5 laps to make it happen. The whole day will revolve around this type of competition.
Like any other type of grass roots racing, this is a sport that we all can do.
The Redline: Time Attack is dedicated to making this sport work in a way that has not yet been tried in North America, and I'm sure you can appreciate the sport in general. It's not about SCCA, or NASA time trails, it's about Redlines answer to time trail racing.
We have generated interest in this event spreading as far as Japan. Several racing teams will be competing in the Unlimited Class. Teams build time attack cars because the sport is become more accreted then ever. Trazan Yamamoto will be driving for one team as well. This Time Attack racing is the real deal. Don't knock it until you see what going to happen on November 6th. It will be like no other time trailed racing.

Dude, don't get the wrong idea, what you are doing sounds like fun - if done safely. Where you are going to run into trouble here is this claim that nobody has done it before. I did EXACTLY what you just described with EMRA in 1999. No ****. That one was even more intense because it was ONE lap to set the time. You need to do more homework before you come to a place like this and make such a bold claim.

That's exactly what SCCA Solo I Trials was... $65, open to pretty much anyone, you do parade and qualifying laps, then 5 competition laps. That's been going on for many years, but it was such a dinosaur that people got bored with it and the new Time Trials program was created. Although I do see the value in having a small number of solo competition laps in order to reward the more consistent drivers, most people find that boring, inflexible, not time efficient, and less bang-for-the-buck.

I hear you guys.
I understand what you'll telling me, and I too have been involved with racing for many years as well.
I'm trying to let you all know that what Redline is doing is different. Certainly this kind of racing has been done before. It's been around since the conception of Auto-X. However, what we're doing with the Time Attack on the level that we're running this event goes way beyond anything that we've seen yet. You guys know better than most about racing and track days, so I expected good questions and apprehension. All I can do is let you all know about this, and if you're interested, then you might be able to get out to the track to check it out. Even If only to spectate.

some of these guys love to be harsh... keep up the good work chris/nik. care to elaborate more on the partnership with Modified? what kind of coverage is expected?
anyways i think critics here should just think of this event as time trials with magazine coverage. which is excellent for everyone who wants to enter.

Time Attack=Time Trial, it has been around for many decades. Claiming that this is a "new" event is very bold and that it will be different from others too. If EMRA, NASA or SCCA teamed up with Tuner magazines they could do the exact same thing as your event that you are promoting. The only real problem that I can see with an event like this is relaxed tech inspection and safety standards that are presently in place with well known santioning bodies.
Please keep us posted on the developement of this event.

Not that I'm even considering entering this, but not everyone wants to be in a magazine.
<--- One of those people.
And yeah, I don't know why the limited number of laps would make this more exciting or whatever. More stressful, sure. More frustrating, sure. More disappointing, probably. Sounds like an autox run on a track to me, and the big thing about autox I don't like is that I'm driving for a total of like 3 minutes, which apparently is the whole point of this thing.
On a sidenote, if the OP is involved at all with safety, as Zephyr said, keep it strict. It won't help that you'll most likely have a bunch of hot-headed noobs there swinging their ***** around.

You still get track time for the entire day, so it's not like your autoX scenario. You still get run groups, and practice time, and lots more driving than your AutoX thing.
Thanks for the suggestions. This is not the first time Redline is putting on a time attack, only the first time doing one this size. And we do have tech for the cars in the competition.
If you have never done a time attack, you should consider checking one out. They are pretty fun, even to watch!
Hope to see some of you out there. It will be a very fun day!

Who cares what some of these guys say. So what if they don't want to be a part of your event, who needs them anyway. Maybe they're attacking you for the somewhat bold statements in your original post. But that's marketing and its understandable what you're trying to accomplish in getting people interested in your series. Getting your picture in a magazine may not appeal to some, but when you have sponsors who would like the coverage, then it could be very beneficial to attend these types of events.

I misread that then, my apologies.
I misread that then, my apologies.
We definitely appreciate the feedback... Chris and I wouldnt post stuff here about our endeavors if we didnt want to hear what all of you think. :-)
We do know that Time Trialling has been done for decades and decades. Time Attack events have been run as well, however, mostly on a local scale, with little to no industry support. The Time Attacks that have been run with industry support have been "Invite Only" events run by Primedia.
Our idea of Time Attack is more than just a fancy way to rename Time Trials... It is a philosophy, and attitude, a lifestyle and so much more. This first event has been somewhat rushed, so expect to see more at our 4 events in 2006. We are taking Redline:Time Attack! national with events at California Speedway, Summit Point, Mid Ohio and an as yet to be determined 4th track in the South West.
This isnt going to be a Hot Import Daze or Nopi Drag Racing event with lame burnout contests, bikini contests, and other gooofy activities. Im a big fan of SPEED World Challenge, so look for us to model our events after them as far as professionalism and organization goes.
Through all of my conversations on the phone with tuner shops, tire manufacturers, top tier performance part manufacturers, etc.... there is STRONG interest in our Time Attack series. We provide a cheaper alternative compared to wheel to wheel racing that will allow these companies, drivers, racers, etc to show off their abilities, products, and tuning skills.
Modified will be running full page ads for our series. They will also cover each of the events in the magazine with pics, editorial content, and the finishing order in the 9 classes that we have. Many other companies are interested in being associated by way of series sponsorship and if all goes well G4 TV may even pick this up (if we can prove our concept).
The rules have been revised, but our web guy has yet to update the site with them. Admittedly, our rules are much more leniant than those of SCCAs... they are flexible as well. We will run our time attack series with the same philosophies, logic, and attitude that we have used successfully at our Open Track days. Working this way has made us quite popular and we have seen wonderful growth. We will perform thorough safety/tech inspections at our Redline:Time Attack! events, because WE, more than you, dont want to see anyone getting hurt. Our asses are on the line if we fail to provide a safe racing environment...
Keep the comments coming. Chris and I will do our best to answer your questions and address your concerns.

What's wrong with bikini contest? I went to drag racing once, and was totally floored by the bikini contest. I would like to see them on road racing events
Heck, Prima Racing will have a contest for 2006 Prima Racing Cover Girl!!

So you're selling a lifestyle eh?
The whole promoter/manufacturer/magazine complex surrounding the import industry makes me sick to my stomach.
