temp gun
im looking to buy a temp gun to record track temps, brake rotor, tire, etc.
what do you guys use at the track? any suggestions on what brand to go or what to look for? what temp range should i be looking at getting?
im leaning towards the craftsman one, its -58f-1500f...any comment about it?

Don't use infrared for tire temps. It is no good. You need a probe tire pyrometer. I got the Longacre unit the "deluxe" or something like that. It reads faster. To do tire temps you need a probe that can poke down into the rubber some. You use the probe on the track surface too.
discoveryparts.com has them

I would buy a snap on one I have had mine for 3-4 years and it works great.
You can use it for more then what you mentioned it can be very handy in diagnosisng problems

For tire temps I also recommend the probe type, like the Flashing Moose.
I have the longacre one myself.
For everything else the laser one works fine.

other then the snap on any other brands i should look at for a laser temp gun? i think snap-on might be out of my price range, i like the craftsman one because its only $150
raytek makes a good line of inexpensive temp guns. Really popular among people who race nitro powered rc cars. However I'm not sure if they measure as high as you are looking for.
hmm, tell me more about these tire probes. where can i find/buy them at? what are some good brands and what temp range should i be looking for?
