TEIN Coilover question
I ask this here because it is more related than in the suspension forum
Ok the quick story. I aquired a car that came with these coilovers they are in good shape and i am planning on using them on my roadcourse car.
However they appear to be discontinued by tein and i am trying to figure out what spring rate i have. I have tried to make sense of the tein website to no avail.
The coilovers are
TEIN Driving Master HR
Front DLH08-12531 EF9-F
Rear DLH09-12531 EF9-R
Front ID 65 Free Height 8"
Rear ID 70 Free Height 6"
My main concern is that the rear springs look very thin wire and i am suspecting they are very low spring rate.
On the other question what rate is recommended for use with this type of coilover i have read all the ground control stuff on koni's but not really anything related to tein or any other coilover. I would suspect something like 500f/450r would be a good starting point.
89 honda civc Si d16a6 full roadcourse car.
Thanks

The Tein springs that I have are labeled with the spring rate. You might check to see whether there are markings. Or you can contact Tein. They responded to my email when I had a question.
sidtc is right. My TEIN springs have the part number directly on the spring which contains the spring rate information. For example, my SS kit front spring is part #SB050-01200. The 050 denotes this is a 5 kg/mm rate spring. You can check http://www.tein.com/stsp.html as well, it may help.
Well i would have done that except the springs have all the paint rusted off.
I sandblasted them and repainted.
These coilover were used and the perches seized i had to heat them and use a lot of penetrating fluid to get them apart. the shock themselves are in good shape.
The guy that had the car that these came out of before drove it in winter with snow and dirt they didn't hold up very well.

Then I suggest calling TEIN in California and see if they can use the model numbers that you do have to look up the rates. They were very helpful when I was selecting my shocks/springs so they will likely be responsive.
