Default Summit Point Question

For those of you that have run there... what is the track surface like?

Is it easy or hard on tires? We reserved a couple of entries for the 12-hour race and we're trying to determine how many tires we'll need.

Plan on changing your fronts every 2 hours, and the rears maybe only once. Highly doubtful the right rear will ever need to be changed. This is assuming you're using something that wears like a Kumho. If you're talking about a Toyo RA-1, you can cut these numbers in half. If you're using Hoosiers, errr, I hope someone else is paying for them.

Should only have 1 brake stop.

For a CRX, there are only 2 hard braking zones, for turn 1 and 5... Summit is pretty nice on brakes...

As for tires, warren knows more than I, he crews for the 12 hour all the time..

I run Hoosiers... that's why we're concerned about wear.

I've never run Toyo's on the ITA car. I ran them several years ago in ITC and they felt very similar to the Hoosiers but not as much grip. No experience with Kuhmo.

If you are hell bent on running Hoosiers, bring the oldest, hardest, crappiest ones you've got. The surface isn't too hard on tires, it's just that it's a really long race.

You really won't know your tire situation for sure until you've made a few pitstops and checked out the tires that came off. It's hard to say, but I'll stick with my previous swag.

We usually bring 8-10 Kumhos per SRX-7. Usually only use 6-8. Brake stops will depend on car and pad compound. We can make the entire 12 hours on Hawk Blues at all corners, but just barely. If we use anything else in the rear, we need a brake stop.

The track surface isn't particularly abrasive. But your front left will wear out WAY before any others.

Will blues in the rear increase the tendency of the rear brakes to lock up first? Is it just something to keep an eye on when braking hard?
