Default STS engine modification question.

Whats up everyone, I just got into autocross this year and I'm in STS class. I usually am on http://www.g2ic.com, but i lurk aroud here. I've got a 91 integra with an LS motor thats on its way out. I really wanted to balance the whole bottom end of another LS motor of the same year. but im not sure whether or not thats legal. I planned on doing some 94+ LS cams, and possibly a 94+ Intake manifold...all from a LS. So basically, aside from my intake, header, and exhaust, what more can i do to the engine and transmission in STS class?

Nothing, really. All you can do is rebuild your oem motor to the first factory overbore and replace the worn parts with new ones. You cannot go swapping cams and other parts from later years and such.

I recommend that you buy a SoloII rulebook, and remember that if it does not say that you can, then you cannot.

Crap...so balancing the bottom end would be out of the picture? I plan on doing the .25 over factory overbore.

i think balancing the bottom end would be perfectly legal. the engine is balanced out of the factory in 91. right, check the rule book.

You can do whatever the factory manual allows in the rebuild. I doubt a full balancing of the the bottom end will be legal. - AB

Balancing is not allowed.

However, you may buy as many stock/OEM parts as you wish until you can assemble a perfect set.

Other that bolt ons (I/H/E) not much more meaningful "enhancements" can be made within STS rules. Last rulebook I have (2001) says that you can change the fuel control and the ignition control system. Each system may be modified by either electronic or mechanical means but not both. So, "engine control computers and the installation of piggyback control devices such as VTEC controllers and ignition controllers." OR you can mess w/ ignition timing or fuel pressure regulators. You can also change pulleys and belts to eek out a few more ponies. Better money would be spent on drivers school, IMHO.
