Default spring rubbers

last night at the auto-x, my dad said that i kept burying the front tires into the fender wells, i have tokico adjustables that were set at 5, is it possible that the struts hadn't yet stiffened up, if not, then is there any place where i can buy spring rubbers to stiffen the springs up a little

You need a higher rate spring and/or you need to raise the ride height. Period. Wedging a bunch of rubber in there is A Bad Idea.

I *think* (apologies if I'm wrong) you have yourself described your car as "riced out" (perhaps on the three-wheeling thread?). A riced out car is typically too low on too-soft springs for track use. "A streetable ride" at a really low ride height just doesn't work.

--Karl, who has been there and done that with "sport" lowering springs

ok, there is a littel confusion i guess, if you see my sig, i have an integra that i race, not my prelude (the "riced" one), if you scroll down on that post, you'll see a red integra, that's the one i bought, it now has an LS/VTEC conversion, but it has tokico springs and tokico 5 way adjustable struts, so other than that, i don't know much about the suspension, b/c i didn't do the suspension upgrade

Regardless of which car it is, "spring rubbers" will do more harm than good. It's basically like moving the "bottom out point" in your suspension up.

I don't know the spring rates on Tokico springs but I'd wager that they're biased towards ride comfort, not handling. Even if they're not, they're almost certainly progressive rate springs...which are soft for the first x inches of wheel travel. Since you only have "x plus a little bit" of wheel travel on most Hondas...this means you'll soon bottom out.

Raising the ride height of the car (is possible) and/or adding some spring rate is the right answer. Trust me, I've gone through this.

Are those different from the ERS springs that come with Ground Control coilovers?

Eibach road race springs are too short for normal shocks, though they will tell you otherwise.

Warren, so even a normal Koni Yellow will not work with the Road Race springs? Thanks.

What are your spring rates as of now?

Some Ground Controls should do the trick. If the car is used on the street much, start with 350-400lb front and 450-500lb rear. I'm not sure what the Illumina will handle, if it can handle up to 600lb (like the Koni), you may want to start a bit firmer.

I second this, and Cobra is running OTS Illuminas and I think he is running 600lb/in springs so he would be one source to consult for such advice.

If your back does not hurt when you get out of the car, you need better springs!

Cobra got these shocks used, from what i understand and these probably werent his first choice in shocks. Revalved, Shortened, DA Koni's would be nice but they cost money. Lots of money. For autocross 600# springs on a car like that is truly overkill and probably too much spring.

I'm running 400/400 GCs on Koni Yellows on my G3 Integra, and I find that barely streetable as is. That is pure opinion though, and I'm mostly going off the the "amount the gf complains" meter. They are stiff enough to keep me off the bump stops during auto-x, even with tires flush with the wheel wells. In fact, I've been very happy with them for auto-x so far. I do believe that I might have bottomed them out running Willow Springs though... Will be using a zip tie next time to find out.

You know, it does not matter what the car looks like when autocrossing. Just ask yourself, "does the car handle well enough for me, or do I want to spend more money and possibly have a rougher riding car?" To get the front tires to stop going up to the fenderwells you are going to have to do higher spring rates or stiffer roll bars or both.

All of which cost money and will make the ride worse. Also once you get above about 300bl/inch springs you are going to replace your shocks with something that will handle the higher rate. Expect to pay $1100 for shocks and springs + $300 for bars + $3-500 for installation. If you have that kind of money and that kind of commitment to autox and you don't mind a rough daily driver then lots of people here will recommend Koni / GC combo with varying rates.

I recommend you talk to Chris at RedShiftMotorsports . com who essentially wrote the book on autox Hondas and has done many CRXs
