Spring rates on Tein RA's
Hello, i am currentley getting my car setup to complete some HPDE's and possible auto-x's next year. I currentley have Tein RA's and a 22mm rear ITR sway bar with the Beaks kit. I am planning on getting my RA's revalved to handle higher rear rates and lower front rates and basically have the choice between 10 kgf/mm, 12 kgf/mm and 14 kgf/mm springs due to comfort reasons. I was wondering if having 10 kgf/mm front springs and 14 kgf/mm rear springs would be too drastic of a difference and provide to much rotation, or should i go with 12 kgf/mm rear rates for a more neutral setup. The plus for going 10 kgf/mm front and 14 kgf/mm rear would be that I wouldn't need to purchase any new springs. However, if i go with 12 kgf/mm in the rear it would cost me $50 a spring.
For those who aren't up on the metric system:
10 kgf/mm = 559 lbs/in
12 kgf/mm = 671 lbs/in
14 kgf/mm = 783 lbs/in
Thanks alot, Greg

The springs are the same size front to rear so you can just swap them. Tein RA are said to handle up to 20k on factory valving. There are few people who run this setup on h-t, just do a search.
FYI: I plan on doing this setup this spring.

actually, if u read the technical info on the web site or manual, it says the reccommended spring rates for each damper, front and rear are valved differentley. They can handle up to 20 kgf/mm on a revalved damper. Running spring rates that are out of the range of the factory valving causes the shocks to wear out faster and not last as long.
I'm probley going to just swap the springs over the winter without revalving em. If teh recommended settings are 12F and 6R, should i run 6F, 12R or different?

6 in teh rear will be a pillow........
you want the higher spring rate in the rear for road racing/ HPDE's.
My setup for next season will be 8K front 12K rear, with a Zeal system, factory valving.
I would run the spinrgs on the dampers and see how they do. If you blow a seal or the shocks arnt holding up well to the higer rates you can always send them away for the valving than.
I would just wear them out for now and than rebuild them later down the road.
Why fix it if it isn't broken? Break it first

Yes, there is a recommened "range" for the RA's, but I talked to Tein and others who have done this. Out of the box there is enough adjustment to handle up to 20k but with a revalve they can handle up to 30k. There is plenty of adjustment range left when running 10k front and 14k rear on factory valving.

Seriously though, it sounds like you haven't done any HPDEs or Autocrosses, right? If that's the case I would run what you got. There's no point to changing a setup that you haven't even tried once.
Can you tell me who you got your info from? Im not doubting you, but I would like to make sure that I wont be "bouncing around" on the track next year.

Ha ha ha, 14kg/mm and comfort in the same sentence
