SP rule question
I remember this was discussed on here at some point, but the search yielded no results. Need to clarify this for a fellow competitor:
What kinda side skirts are they talking about? It seems that if the intent is to allow most common body kits, which include the side skirts, what's the point of not allowing side skirts?
Should I interpret the rule as: You can use a typical body-kit, so as long as you don't use the side skirts that came with it?
Spoilers and cosmetic trim pieces are permitted. Side skirts may not be used. Spoilers must comply with the following subsections. The intent of this allowance is to accommodate commonly available appearance kits, and replicas thereof, which have no significant aerodynamic function at Solo II speeds.

Unless your friend wins, I don't think too many
people will have a problem with his skirts.
I can't imagine why the rulebook wouldn't allow
different side skirts. Nope, can't figure it out...

Side skirts are banned because of the aerodynamic implications. If you read the rest of the rule, the wings are limited to sizes that would have no effect on aerodynamics.
But, unless you plan on going to Nationals, Tours, or ProSolos, I wouldn't worry about it.
