I believe you're asking about an HPDE. Usually, different schools have different rules concerning number assignments. Your best bet is to contact the registrar about with your questions/concerns...

Min 8" for numbers and 4" for class letters.

I can't speak specifically for CCR, but most clubs let novices use shoe polish numbers on the windows. You can get a number at registration. The SCCA regulations is "numbers at least 8 inches high with a 1 inch stroke, and class letters 'smaller'".

Should I go into the event with class letters on the car? I'm almost positive I'm DSP, per fellow H-T members, but is it required?

I got 33 from my old favorite baseball player - Kevin Seitzer.

Go to the event. When you get there, ask the folks at registration what numbers are available in the class that they determine you are in. Ask for shoe polish to put the class/car number on your window. I can't think of a single novice ever saying they got sent home because they did not show up to their first event knowing their class and car number.

If you just want to go ahead and get fancy magnetic numbers, call the folks that run CCR and ask them specifically what you need. Unless there is a CCR officer on this board, I don't know how much more specific an answer the rest of us can give you. I could give you a VERY specific response if you were asking about a THSCC event, but honestly, I've only ever run 1 CCR event and don't remember what their novices used for numbers.

What you need for a fun event is a car, and some water to keep yourself hydrated. A chair and a hat are nice. Numbers shouldn't be a big worry to you for your first event. It just isn't that big a deal. Relax, go have fun.
