I am going to fab a rollbar for my car with the help of a local who has done a few cages in the past for some NASA hill climb cars.
I am planning on ajust a main hoop with crossmember, harness bar, (forgive me for my untechnical terms) the rear braces, then half door bars.
For now it is just an HPDE and autocross car. I plan on building a race car in the future but not with this car.
It's a 96 Civic DX hatchback
I weighed it on the scales (not sure what kind) at a local metal yard. 1/4 tank of gas with me in it is weighed 2,340 pounds. I weigh 147. A/C is still yet to be removed, the car will remain D series, no swap for it or turbo so there is only weight to lose (disregarding the cage). So sticking to the rules for NASA I could use the following...
1.500” x 0.120” DOM/Alloy/Seamless
1.750” x 0.095” DOM/Alloy/Seamless
Reading over peoples comments in threads regarding tubing, 1.5 seems to be the popular choice. Would anyone recommend the 1.75? If so, why? Also, how many feet to do it would you guess?
Here is pretty much what I have in mind minus the X-brace in back. Pics belong to jdmdan.

That cage is not for road racing. Looks to me to be a drag cage.
It's missing the diagonal in the main hoop! Don't even bother with the "half bars" next to the doors. Put door bars in, or don't bother. Not worth the trouble if it's a street car.
If it's a street car, just build a simple main hoop with rear braces and a harness bar. Use 1.5" tubing (can fit better) and follow the rule book.
There is a ton of info in this forum if you search around!

Yeah, I'm not sure what he uses the car for.
Mine I plan for a main hoop, diagonal, rear braces, harness bar, camera mount.
It is a street car until October when it paid off. Then it will be occasional weekend car and track car. Do those half bars offer any protection? I don't mind climbing over them if they do.

The diagonals "probably" would.
I'd personally keep it to a copy of the Autopower bar, maybe with a rear strut bar built in, maybe with the diagonals. You're already down on power compared to your other HPDE friends, you might want to just keep the bar to a minimum for rollover protection and a little help for side impacts.

Also, might not want to use his car as a guide. Drag "cages" are just plain silly.
I agree with everyone that the autopower would be a good thing to use for a basic guide. You would want your harness bar to be a good bit higher than where dan has his as well.
Here's a picture of my Autopower if it helps at all.
