Roll Cage Diameter Question
Gentleman~
I have researched getting bolt in cages as well as custom weld in. I am building the car to simply have fun at HPDE and not race in any series. I wanted to know what size tubing Autopower uses or Kirk Racing for their 6 point roll cages and why. If a custom cage is made can you use inch and 5/8 since it is fully welded? This will be going into a 93 Hatchback DX model. Thanks for any and all input.

Not sure about Autometer, but I'm sure Kirk Racing uses the diameter that is found in the GCR (which is free to d/l on the SCCA website) for the weight of your car. It would be dumb to do otherwise, in case you plan to race the car later.
All I know is my car, and we have to use 1.75" tubing since the car is over 3000lbs as raced.

This is an answer to a question you didn't really ask but, if you are going to the effort to have a cage installed, it would be a REALLY good idea to be sure that it meets typical race sanctioning body requirements. It won't necessarily assure that you can re-sell the car but it sure might come in handy if the cage isn't a barrier to someone buying it, given the cost of putting it in there...

What he said.
Tubing diameter and wall thickness depends on the weight of the car. Use the SCCA sizing table to build it properly.

Use 1.5"x.120 or 1.75"x.095 wall.
That will work for the car you are talking about. I believe that Autopower used 1.75"x.120 wall, but not 100% sure!

...and that it meets the design rules - floor plates, diagonals, etc. Where are you located? Someone here is sure to know a reputable cage builder pretty much anywhere in the US.
