Roll Bar padding and DOM
Our CRX is nearly done. Been on track at BeaveRun at Hyper-Fest and has a NASA logbook finally. The cage is a KIRK 8-point weld-in. It was custom fitted to keep the driver well protected. My fabricator specializes in Street Rods and funny cars. His welding is top drawer. A road race car was a challenge that he actually enjoyed. Do I recommend KIRK-you bet-great product and the service is the best I have encountered.
Roll bar padding is required by most sanctioning bodies now. The reasons are quite sensible. There are 2 types available. For those just buying-get the closed cell SFI 45.1 type. Summit sells it in several colors and thicknesses. The minimum is 1/2" for SCCA but thicker is better. We used 3/4" on the door bars and lower tubes. 1" padding is on the Halo and main hoop where one's head might come into contact with the bar. I do have some of the open cell foam material on the shelf-but will not install it. The closed cell is very easy to shape and fit as it does not fully wrap around the tubing.
Just another safety item to think about.
