race class development
We are developing new race classing for Club Racing of Arizona in hopes to make more competetive racing in Arizona. Please provide input, as we are still fine tuning. (also any popular classes we may have missed)
Classing as follows:
1-You can run solely based upon your Weight to Horsepower, starting next season you will have to provide a 3 run Dyno Sheet from an approved shop. (Those Shops are TBD in the near future) Take your Weight and divide your Horsepower what that equals; find the number range in which your car should be classed.
2-You can also race in the race class that you do with other organizations, IE NASA, SCCA and PASA/ASA. Find your respective class and you will have to be in compliance with those rules of that class and org. If protested the CRA/ASRA Officials will use those Orgs Rules and Regulations for the level of standard. If you are found in non compliance then you will be moved up one class regardless of your W/HP.

WARNING - personal internet opinion follows**
I think it's kind of a shame to keep busting the US racing world up into smaller and smaller pieces. It's to the point where fewer and fewer cars can be used in different places or with different sanctioning bodies. There are more classes, serving (as often as not) the same number of drivers as have been active in any given area in the past.
Question: How do you know that low participation numbers are a result of a lack of this kind of class structure? Is it possible that this is a solution that doesn't address underlying problems?

** And, NO - I am not an ASRA member or participant.

Yes, there are many underlying factors, and I agree with your statements. I wish there were only one or two organizations. Unfortunately in Arizona we have many!
TWith that said, the classing is just one aspect for this series. Of course, as you know, there are way too many political factors involved with racing. I am not getting too invlolvd, however I am helping with the classing.

i could show you 3 dyno sheets from my car making 198 hp with the SAME MODS it has now....but i'm making quite a bit more now...didn't change a thing cept oil and some secret stuff

Where would SCCA HONDA CUP fit in? Normally we run with SCCA ITE. or on our own.
I'm sure our group would probably be interested in venturing to Arizona.
Sounds like you are developing an alternative to USTCC? which might be a good thing?
I doubt that the Power to Weight formula will work? there are far too many variables from car to car, week to week, dyno run to dyno run.
Just my $0.02 worth.

You need a CR0. There's a big difference between Power/Weight of 8:0-1 and 4.0-1. Maybe CR1 should be 9-12, CR0 5-8, anything less isn't invited?
Did you use track records to determine the groups? Those might be a good place to add classification data.
Also, turbo cars are going to be a severe PITA to dyno.
-Chris, 6.2:1 or 10:1, depending on boost switch position and weight
