QDR Build Thread
This is long overdue for me.
While I always have the best intentions of documenting everything I do to share with like minded folks, 9 times out of 10 I am lucky to find time to work on my car(s) let alone take pictures and post them on the internet while I am doing it.
Anyhow, lets start from the beginning:
In 2003 I was daily driving a DA Integra sedan (rare 5 spd!). My mother-in-law moved up to WA and was staying with us until she found a place of her own. Shortly thereafter someone was kind enough to steal her 91' Prelude Si (which used to be my car) while it was parked in front of my house.
Long story short, I sold (more like gave) her my Integra and picked up a 95' Civic CX as my new daily driver.
It had some pimpin' 17" ADR wheels (!), Maxspeed (ebay) coilover sleeves on stock shocks, GReddy header, cobbled together exhaust w/ a Magnaflow muffler, a nice MSD Ignition sticker to cover the giant crack in the dash, and a half-fried cabin harness due to what I suspect was the kid I bought it from accidentally shorting the power wire to the stereo.
Having only been an owner of OBD-0 era Honda's at that point, I took a friend whom owned a nice GSR swapped 92' VX hatchback whom I should not have listened to when he said I should buy the car.
Dont ever buy a car from a barely-english speaking Ukranian who is "selling the car for his brother". Did I mention the Salvage title?
Fast forward about 5 years. I hadnt done much to the car for I was convinced that I would turn the Z32 300ZX Twin Turbo that I owned into a track monster. Sparing you the details, I realized how impractical (retardedly expensive) that would be and bought a 2002 WRX Wagon knowing that a little one was in my future.
The Subie is still my daily to this day and when purchased, I decided I would slowly turn the CX hatch into my weekend warrior.

About late 2008, my car had been sitting under what I thought was a quality car cover for 2-3 months.
Finally having some time set aside to tear into the car to start prepping it for track duty, I removed the car cover to find this:

Goddamn I love the Pacific Northwest! (I'm originally from Phoenix where I never had this problem).
After 3 hours of mold spore decontamination, I accomplished the following:
Cleaned & Waxed, CF hood installed, Volk CE28's with fresh BFG KDW-2 rubber. "JDM" plastic headlights and amber corners were circa 2005-ish for the car. Hey, at least they are lighter.

D15B sohc vtec swap (cheap!)

Removed some interior bits and installed a bling! 330mm Nardi wheel (which I later found was too small for my liking on the track)
How about that clutch pedal holder!

Battery relocation the hard way

Ohhhh the horror....
The mold might still be under the fabric Harley.
You are going to have to keep an eye on it.
You can always chuck the seats and only replace the front two.
I like that you have "Dirty" in your racing team name...
As do I "Dirtyguy Motorsports".
All that Dirt lol makes me feel good!

Hey Paul! All of those seats are long gone though I did manage to get rid of all the mold.
Im taking the historical approach with this thread, where the car and I started, working up to present day.

I would buy a solution for killing mold (besides bleach) and get one of those steam vacs for cleaning upholstery. That mold is just.... well, I'm not ever going to ride in your car.
You should sign up for the IRDC driver/racer school on April 14th. I'm considering selling my super epic Sounders tix on that day so I can instruct.

Its on jackstands right now, I am working on the cage. Theres no way I will make the 4/14 date, my first Time Trials event of the season is on 4/21 and I'm not sure that I will make that either. I will likely attend the 6/16 IRDC event.
I'm still on the fence as to whether or not Ill wind up with an SCCA or a Conference license. SCCA=quick but expensive, Conference=takes work to get but is cheap.
Its a tough call when your time is just as valuable/scarce as your money. I presently hold an SCCA TT license but in their infinite wisdom, they do not apply any of that experience to a regional race license.

The Conference race license is the way to go I think due the quality of the program. They are really good about NOT giving a racing license to anyone with a heartbeat and during your Novice races you get lots of good feedback from Senior license observers.
It goes like this:
Step 1: Do a school
Step 2: Get Conference race license
Step 3: Do 3 Novice races and 3 sessions of Novice "work".
Step 4: Upgrade to Area License!
Your Civic would make a great ITA car! The minimum weight is 2270, only 20lbs heavier than the damn CRX Si which DOESN'T have Vtec!!! Argh!
It is WAY beyond ITA spec, think more along the lines of ITEverything.
Thats why I have been talking about buying a prepped ITA Honda in the future to get my door banging kicks.
If I banged this car up it would hurt my feelings.
So getting back to "the story":
I went through the car mechanically and addressed any issues that seemed suspect.
Sourced some ITR calipers and Prelude Vtec rotors and made myself a 4x100 compatible ITR brake conversion (calipers milled, rotors re-drilled).
Then I threw on some SS braided lines and some Motul RBF600 brake fluid.
In Spring 2009 I started progressing through the SCCA Time Trials program and attending various lapping days and an occasional autocross (srsbzns!). Throughout this time I was running the aforementioned BFG street tires and the little sohc that could. All the while gaining more and more valuable "seat time".
About Winter 2009/Spring 2010 I got the itch for more power and some r-comps.
A call to Steve @ H-motors (great guy to deal with!) and 2 weeks later this guy was greeting me in front of my garage:

Here it is in it's new home. 98-spec JDM ITR, 191whp/137tq, completely stock internals, stock header, stock intake manifold. S300 tuned by my good friend and great tuner, James @ Speedfactory Racing in University Place, WA.
I pulled off the practically new ITR valve cover and it is displayed on the wall of my garage (yeah, its okay go ahead and make fun of me).
I had the JDM ITR 4-1 header ceramic coated satin black, by Performance Coatings in Auburn, WA.
I installed a Fluidyne dual core/full width radiator from a DA Integra (thats why the upper coolant hose is funny looking). I also picked up a Spal relay kit and wired in two fans to kick on simultaneously.
Then I welded on some bungs and made some lines for the catch can to keep the oil vapor out of my intake manifold.
Installed some 95A durometer Innovative Mounts and an OG Comptech intake I have been sitting on for a long while. Theres probably some detail type things I am forgetting as this was all done in the summer of 2009.

Dzus fasteners on the front bumper to facilitate easy removal.

Ditched the 330mm Nardi wheel for this 350mm Personal, which I find to be much more suitable.

Fast forward to present day.
The car has been on jackstands since Thanksgiving, and unfortunately not much progress was made until the last couple of months.
I knocked this out last week:
Once again I visited Performance Coatings in Auburn, WA, this time to apply a black thermal dispersant coating on the heat exchanger for the supercharger.
I then fabricated some mounting brackets and fitted it into place.

I also made a mounting bracket for the cooler sandwich, heat exchanger up front, oil cooler on the left, power steering cooler on the right.

The new exhaust is all done. 3" side exit, Burns Stainless 2-stage ultralight race muffler, and Vibrant resonator, v-bands, and flex joint. Hopefully this will keep the noise police away, the muffler shell is easily removable for more packing if necessary.
