Can someone actually verify that towstraps/eyes are mandatory for IT cars this year? According to my '05 GCR, on page ITCS-20, it says "Towing eyes per GCR Section 17 may be fitted." I'm not reading that as being mandatory.
Also, on page GCR-107, section 17.31 (towing eyes) says "Showroom Stock, Touring, and Improved Touring cars are not required to install towing eyes but it is highly recommended."
Was it in a Fastracks somewhere?

This may come out like a REALLY stupid question, but do you really need the strap for this to work? What you need is something for the rescue vehicle to attach to. So why not just put the steel shackle through the factory tow hook, and let them attach to that? If you are worried about them not being able to reach it if you wreck the car, take some string and tie it off to one of the bars on the bumper. Why do you actually have to attach that extra strap, and take the risk of losing the bumper if the tow angle is wrong?

I believe it is to satisfy the rule.

I know, but my point was that the steel shackle alone should satisfy the rule...

More food for thought-if someone can host my setup I will upload what we did.
The rear is an Arospeed short piece and the front is a SafeQuip strap. What is nice about the strap is the way it is mounted to the subframe-a single bolt wherever you want to put it. We used the grill opening and attached it on the crossmember and taped it out of the airflow so that it does not stick out-safety people can yank it out easily. I am in the process of designing a metal piece to replace one of the front factory hooks and yet keep the function. Our install is very simple using the above parts and will work on most Honda cars.
The rule is that you must have a 2" opening and the stock rear center hook simple does not comply. I wonder if a shakle will be approved. There are stock hooks up front-but they too do not comply and are not located close enough to the front of the car to be in compliance. It may be possible to make a replacement for the rear one that could be welded in place of the stock one and have the strength needed. The latest FastTrack makes it very clear that the part is required, as I read it.
