poor mans pyrometer.....
I'm somewhat informed of how to do this BUT , what I want to know is how to read the results
heres what I dont know , do you want the shoe polish to scrub off only on the tread of the tire , as in play with the pressures untill it no longer wears off anywhere but the TREAD of the tire
can someone just list a rough little how-to so I dont miss anything
Thanks - Jamie

use chalk, not shoe polish.. shoe polish is tougher to get off.. if you have dedicated race tires, I guess this doesn't matter..
it's just to check the amount of roll-over.. boost your pressures until you're not scuffing the sidewall.. reapply each time you scuff it off the sidewall and increase your pressures.. on my fronts, I always have a little roll-over.. but if I get the pressures up enough, it's not too bad..
If a picture was posted, I couldn't see it..
as far as I know, it only exists to make sure you're not rolling onto the sidewall of your tire due to under-inflation.. there's nothing else to it..
I'd be eager to hear if anyone is able to get more info out of it..

thats what I thought
didnt know if you could see anything else from marking the tires , guess I'll wait to see if anyone else chimes in
thanks for the quick reply

I'm not sure I'd equate tire marking with the results of pyrometer readings. Tire marking can only help you with inflation questions but even then, hwo do you interpret the performance of a tire that appears to be "rolling" excessively?
By taking inner/middle/outer temp readings on the tire with a pyrometer, you may find your insider shoulder is excessively hot (as an example). To me, a sign that you've got a little too much negative camber in it. That's something that a mark would never tell you.

OK , about the "poor mans pyrometer" this was a bad way to put it , I know you cant read accurate temps from chalk/shoe polish
in another thread someone called it that , and I simply wanted to know if there was something more that I didnt know of
thanks for the replies
