mmm... grip
So I came home today and found this sitting in my garage.

Theres only a slight size difference. 205-50-15 on the left, stock 175-70-13 Kuhmo 722's on the right.

Here's what they look like:

Things would have gone faster if I hadnt stripped a stud, which sucked *** to replace. http://www.kettering.edu/~daws...d.jpg
Did finally get them on the car, went for a drive. Tires rub pretty bad in the back, so I'll need to relocate the rear bumper screw or roll the fender lip. Only pic I have of em on the car is kinda bad, but will have to do till tomorrow.

Sweeeet. What kinda hundai is that?
The korean cars are looking better and better. Some people may not remember that a few decades ago Japanese cars were considered inferior. Now look at em. I'll be watching these korean guys to see how they come along. Kia, Daewoo, Hyundai, I've got my eye on you guys.

Its a 2001 Accent. Decent 105hp, 106#ft 1.6L DOHC, 5spd. And only 2280pounds curb weight with a 90 something inch wheelbase.
This weekend is the test for the new tires, WOR SCCA autoX.

Don't bother watching Daewoo. The CEO ran away about a year ago after they ended up with $70 billion in debt, including huge amounts of fraud that had inflated their value like...$32 billion more than it should be. GM bought the whole car-making division for $251 million. That's less than they spend developing one new car.
I don't know if any more Daewoo's are going to be coming to the US.

They will, as rebadged Chevys.
No, seriously.

+38mm is the offset
I've got a few things done to the suspension (and GOD did it ever need it). Eibach pro-kit for 98-99 accent (wanted the larger drop of 2", since my car has the same spring perch and weighs a little more), KYB GR-2 struts, a Top Stop front strut bar, and KVR perfomance pads up front. A rear whiteline adj sway bar is next on the list, fronts too much of a PITA to get to... After that, get soe more hp and jump into FSP.
I found out they sell KYB AGX in Korea for my car, so when I blow the GR-2's i'll probably go to them, or to Koni inserts of I can dig up my old struts. I also found that H&R has springs for my car, that arent listed for the US either so I'm gonna try to find something stiffer, even if she raises up a little.

When did this become Hyundai tech? fyi, the Kuhmo 711's aren't that good (albeit better than the 13's that came on the car)
You also increased your effective gearing by selecting a larger overall diameter.
Try 195/50/15's instead. They're cheaper and they'll give you better grip and gearing.

Yeah, lets see. My car is 2200 pounds, ~100 hp and tq, abou the same as stockish 4th and 5th gen civics. I cant imagine why i thought i'd learn something over here...
I guess i'm just a dumb Hi-un-day owner who's lost on the internet.
<-- well aware of the gearing change, as well as the 711's not being as good a tire for autoXing as say, the Azenis or BFG KD's. But at $43 for 205-50-15, are still a HUGE improvement over my previous tires, on a car that will see open track days, and are at lesat semi competent on a daily driver car that see's 30k miles a year, I'm not complaining. The car is somewhat slower i guess, but its not really noticeable since it was slow to begin with.

Slow indeed, with no mods available to help you out. =[ You need to become the first Hyundai owner with a Honda engine swap.

You may not be happy with the wear that you will get on thoes tires. I have them on my CRX and am not overly immpressed at all, But for the price... you cant beat them. My 195-50-15s are only 36 a pop pls shipping.

Oh no, whatever am I to do if I cant buy stuff in stores.
Just because its not sold in standard rice shops, or hell most race shops, online or brick and mortar, doesnt mean it doesnt exist. Nearly everything I would need can be bought, or at least be commissioned to be made, at a price. Or i just order from overseas or make it myself. There are a few hyundai shops around, and most of them source everything from Korea or Australia where parts are readily and semi-readily available. We also have a few military people who are stationed in Korea, so that helps things bit.
I was hoping that road racers and autoXers would beyond ragging on certain types of car just because of who makes them. Honda's werent always god, and right now they're tied with Hyundai for reliability according to Comsumer Reports at #2 behind Toyota. Anywho, this is turning into a flame... Sorry, I'll stop. Maybe its just the sun getting to me finally after a long day of autoXing...
