which LSD?
i figured i would post this question in here.
i have a 94 del sol with a b18c5 mated to a b16 transmission. the car is used as a daily driver as well as HPDE's at least once a month. the transmission is due for a rebuild and i would like to put an lsd in there. my question is which lsd would you choose for daily driver and occasional track use? i've been looking at kaaz, quaife or just a plain old itr lsd. i think i would need a gsr/itr FD if i go ITR route correct? or should i just get a used itr tranny? of course cost is always a factor, i'm looking at $300 for the tranny rebuild and parts, not including an lsd. itr trannies seem to run around $12-1300. i think i can get an itr lsd for around 250-300, but would also need a new FD if i did that (4.7 FD seems pretty expensive, not sure how much a 4.4 costs). kaaz seems to be best for road course, but i'm afraid the clutch type would wear with all the daily driving i do, not to mention the kaaz oil is expensive too. quaife looks nice with the lifetime guarantee, but i'm unsure of its performance on the road course (no one i talk to seems to use it). anyway, let me know what you guys think.
thanks

He has a point about the Quaiffe, it IS a very effective piece of equipment and it has a lifetime warranty... even under race conditions (I believe).
Keep searching because I have heard LOTS that the Clutch type LSD's are VERY STRONG and VERY EFFECTIVE. The only problem is that they last only about 2-3 seasons and then need service or replacement. I have a Mugen Clutch LSD in my ITA CRX with a 4.73FD and I've only driven cars with gear LSD's so I will be better informed about what's what after my first race or test and tune.
btw: my first race is June 5th.
edit: when my Mugen LSD is no longer effective I'm not going to service it but replace it with a Quaiffe.

I raced all last year with a Kaaz and just changed final drives and had to switch over to a Quaife and to be honest with you, I could not feel much difference between the 2. So because of the lifetime warranty and your street driving go with the Quaife.

some of your pricing is way off.....just 1-2 syncro set costs almost 300.....
itr lsd's can be had for 300 plus
aftermarket can be had for 900 plus
itr 4.785 final drive 425 (best mod on a b18c5)
ats 4.929 final drive 815 (even better mod on a c5)
if you are not doing the work on your tranny....YOU WILL NOT GET OUT OF IT FOR UNDER 300 bucks just to crack the case open!!! and if you haven't worked on one before....well.....don't
jfyi....i have 2 trannies for sale....b16 with LSD and itr final drive 4.4 1100 shipped...or an ITR TRANNY 1250 shipped BOTH HAVE NO GRINDS!! 55k on the itr unknown on the b16 but i put new syncros in it....

thanks for all the replies. seems like quaife takes the cake. i'll have to reconfirm those prices to see who my total cost would be, if it gets to be too much i'll just pick up an itr tranny locally. and no, i would not be doing the work on the tranny myself, but my good friend who owns his own shop, builds and races for nasa enduro series would be doing the work, so i trust him.
thanks
thanks
Mate try using the JDM s80 Integra transaxle. I have one fitted in a 94 EG Civic that I use in SCCA style road racing here in Australia, and it transformed the performance of the car especially out of slow corners. The advantages are: 4.7 FD ratio is well matched to factory 5 speed, it has a helical differential( which is a poor mans ATB),and the spare parts are available from Honda. It may not be the absolute best but its is relatively cheap and is designed from the outset to be used in a roadcar with the advantages of life, maintenance and noise etc.
