For cameras, I like the Panasonic Lumix line. It films in widescreen, has decent resolution, and is a decent point-and-shoot camera. I think the model I have is the FX07, but there are newer models with higher resolution. See sig for sample videos.
I also wanted to try the new Flip MinoHD and Kodak Zi6. Those look really straightforward and inexpensive. They offer HD resolution (although I don't think the optics is up to par with actual HD camcorders).
What I like about the GoPro cameras is the wide angle lens, waterproof, and its small size. The resolution just is too small compared to the cameras I previously mentioned.

i just got my cam-fx mount in the mail. i used it yesterday on teh way home with my Sony HDD haldheld, cant remember the model but its the 980 dollar one.
the videos are amazing. i put it inside the cab of my skyline on the passenger side rear window.
this weekend in going to attach it to the outside of my car and hit the touge behind my house. i might rig up some sort of lanyard just in case, although i was able to pick up an office desk wit hthe suction cup so i dont think a 16oz camera is going anywhere.
shipping was fast, product is durable and SCCA approved so i recommend it. oh, and it was 30 bucks.

I have a panasonic mini-dv camera that I've been pretty happy with. I'm using a cruisecam headrest camera mount. You can see the quality of the vids here. Keep in mind that youtube dumbs it down a bit :

The panasonic mini-dv has optical image stabilization (OIS) whereas most other cameras in its price range have electronic image stabilization. Optical is the better way to go.

The GoPro camera is great for the price. The wide angle is cool. The video quality is not the greatest but does the trick. The only thing I dont like about it so far is the sound quality. The camera is in a water proof case so the sound is pretty low. Other than that it is very versatile.
