Default Light weight panel replacement help....

I am getting ready to seriously get into drag racing once I install my new engine. In the next year or so I will be retiring my car as a street car and dedicate it to the track. My question is... what replacement body parts are readily available for the 3rd gen integra's? doors? 1 piece front end? lexan hatch window? etc... does anyone know any idea where I would even start to look for things such as these? And what would the doors and front end be made of? carbon fiber? fiberglass?
thanks

i imagine that you could get a one-piece fiberglass front end made without too much trouble--i blelieve c-speedracing did a how-to on making a front end for a drag car. as for the doors, it would probably be easiest to just gut them down to the bare minimum--i imagine that it would be the simplest and most cost-effictive way to take care of that. a lexan hatch window would definately be a good move--that huge piece of glass weighs a ton. i'm not exactly sure who makes lexan window replacements but i am certain they are out there--i've seen them around. anyways...good luck!

I have actually seen racers replace stock fenders and hood with those crappy, off-shore, aftermarket "replacement" parts that are stamped from thinner steel sheet...

It's not that hard to gut / cut the doors, and since you're drag racing you'd probably want to cut all the sides flush - except for the front edge where the hinges attach, unless you are allowed to pin the door in. Unless you are going pro, I don't think CF or fiberglass panels are cost effective. There's nothing like losing a few hundred pounds by cutting and replacing glass. Also, you might want to look into getting rid of the charging system if you want to save some weight. I plan on doing that and geting the Westco miata gel battery with charger/maintainer for my "racecar in waiting"...I'm going to get her under 2,000 lbs when I'm done...just need to put more slimfast in the fuel tank and have her run everynight! lol

I have an MMR FG widebody front end on my CRX. It required quite a bit of finishing before painting.

Some of the stuff that needed finishing: http://www.fatboyraceworks.com/crx/i...ntendcrate.jpg
We picked up an air compressor on the same trip with the trailer: http://www.fatboyraceworks.com/crx/i...tendcrate3.jpg
Me unloading: http://www.fatboyraceworks.com/crx/i...tendcrate2.jpg
On the car: http://www.fatboyraceworks.com/crx/i...c/DSCF0007.jpg
Had to relocate the headlights because of the widebody: http://www.fatboyraceworks.com/crx/i...c/DSCF0015.jpg
Here are my gutted doors ready for painting: http://www.fatboyraceworks.com/crx/i...e/DSCF0112.jpg
Front end ready for painting, you can see the altered headlight bracket too, and the wholes that were cut in the front end for headlights: http://www.fatboyraceworks.com/crx/i...e/DSCF0109.jpg
Painted: http://www.fatboyraceworks.com/crx/i...g/DSCF0052.jpg http://www.fatboyraceworks.com/crx/i...g/DSCF0055.jpg
What we did with the doors: http://www.fatboyraceworks.com/crx/i...r/DSCF0093.jpg http://www.fatboyraceworks.com/crx/i...r/DSCF0097.jpg
The lip we added for the mounting of the lexan, you can also see the wideboy front end pretty well: http://www.fatboyraceworks.com/crx/i...r/DSCF0096.jpg

Anyways, there are some pictures for you too look over. If you want to see them all, http://www.fatboyraceworks.com/crx/index2.html

I've looked at all of them, and you're my idol. I love that car man. I absolutely love it. I now KNOW what my next project will be. THanks for the inspiration.

Does anyone know how much the fiberglass doors weigh? I'd emailed some companies but I've had no replies yet. If I don't get an answer I think i am just going to get some dented up doors from a junkyard, bang the dents out as best i can, and gut them like you did.

THen comes the poor man's windows... is plexiglass heavier than lexan, or lighter? I am thinking of just getting a sheet of $40 plexiglass and cutting it to the shape of the window and then just rivetting it in place on the gutted doors.

whenever I go to the track for a serious event, bolt on the doors and gut the car. for now anyway...
