anyone go lapping with a d15? any problems (asside from no HP)?

 

I have gone lapping with a d15. No probs except no power, if you change your tranny to a si it helps and if you are in Solo no one has to know.It kinda was like driving indoor go-karts(except you can't bounce in the seat) everything was about momentum ,right foot down all the time as little brakes asposible because too much brake and it takes forever to get back up too speed.

Close..... I have a D16Z and the motor isn't typically a concern. What you need to have are good brakes and tires. You'll go plenty fast enough so don't worry about power.

John -- who has plenty of untold kill stories from lapping days, and most of them are capured on video tape

 

D16Z might as well be a B16 compared to a DPFI 88-91 d15. My d15 with a cam header and exhaust couldn't even keep up with a stock d16a. I should have put it on the dyno ,probaly would have made a good 85hp. 92 d15 is diff as it has the good inj.

 

John ,post up some of those good kills. I can't get enough of incar action, even on my dial up.

 

I'd love to, but it's all stuck on VHS. I don't have a way to convert it to mpeg, or a place to host it even if I did.

I ran my 95 EG hatch with the d15b7 motor and trans for a while. the drivetrain was bulletproof; couldn't break it! at that time, all I had was mild street suspension and brakes on the car; engine was stock except for CAI (Slatertake) and Walker cheapo exhaust. Every shift was on the revlimiter; the D15 makes nothing down low.....

It was very well balanced (much lighter on the nose than with the B18B setup). You had to stay on the gas and flow through the turns; had to keep the momentum up.

The car was great in wet/slippery conditions. still couldn't spin the front tires!

Ask Bone sometime about riding in the wet/snowy at Mid Ohio at 100+ MPH and passing everything....

It is a good learning experience to start your training in an underpowered car; a mega powered car will still go fast, but you will not neccessarily be driving well or learning alot. Once you start turning decent times in an underpowered car, you will gain the respect of your instructor and will then be ready for more "mods"....

yea, thats what i want to do...run a slower car and learn how to drive first.

Nothing like SLIDING down the back straight at Mid Ohio.
Todd just kept moving brake point 5 ft closer each time.
The last time, well.......white knuckle ride!
