So then to me it's a matter of perspective. To me 7 cars is essentially a depleted field. Unless you mean there's never less than 7 cars on any given weekend then that's a bit different.

If I was building a new car and trying to decide what to build I would not build a car for a class with only 7 total competitors.

The cost of a front running h4 car is not much different then running h2. I started with h4 civic with a bone stock engine and ecu and had no chance to win without building a motor so I spent the money on a k20a3 for h2 and is was about the same price. #24 SoCal h2

7 cars in SoCal, the heart of US road racing? If there is not some kind of reasonable class consolidation in road racing soon, then I'm saying f(* it and going dirt track racing where I can race against 30 cars every week and win enough $ to pay most of the bill.

Spencer, there are plenty of Dirt tracks a couple of hours outside the city in NY, NJ and PA. But they don't let no furin' cars run, just good ole 'merican muscle.

Any of you east coast guys going to make it to Utah for this year's nationals? Or is it going to be a socal HC field at the national champsionship in Utah?


HC is sadly dying. It's too bad because it had the potential to be one of the biggest series in the country. H2 costs just as much as H1 if you want to be a front runner, the difference in cost is negligible. I've done both H2>>(B-series) and H1>>(B & K series engines) and can attest to that.

Costs of racing have gone up (car maintenace, consumables, racing fees, travelling, etc.) and having more options as to where to race (NASA, SCCA, MotoiQ, NCRC, xyz track events) with cheaper registration fees from one organization to another contribute to the dying HC field. Some potential racers/current racers/past racers, etc might blame rule instabililty for the dying HC fields. All in all, it's probably a combination of all the above.

"Strong" is a very relative term. Have you done a car count on Spec E30's on any given NASA weekend? 7 cars is the normal collateral damage after practice, qualifying and the first race lap and there is still 25 or more of them out there.

I agree.. the last race at thunderhill that i did spec e30 had over 53 cars!
That would be considered strong in my book.
Turn two ended up being a parking lot with accidents

Just to 2nd the notion,

NASA just started a PacNW chapter in which I had curiosity but little intention until I found out the nationals were in Utah (pretty close to Seattle and my folks live in SLC) then I knew I wanted to run that event and thus would be running NASA.

I told you that to tell you this: Honda Challenge wasn't even a consideration. PTE was on the only thing that appealed to me and for 2 reasons: Cost and Competition.

Shifter kart?!!! I can't afford that! The only kart racing I'm spending money on is KID KART racing!! LOL! I've been spending $$$ and resources on my 5 year old protege...
We'll see if it goes anywhere...

I did however, buy a CRG Blackstar roller....won't be doing any shifter, nor TAG...probably clone engines!!! LOL!!! why spend $3000 on a 125cc 2-stroke engine when I can buy a $89, 196cc, 4-stroke lawnmower engine...LOL!

Man i miss the shifter.
I think the honda engines are much cheaper than the TM engines any day.
The TM engines are 3500 and up.
Honda's can be had for 1k all day long

PT is eventually going to really take off for 2 reasons:
- Refuge for all the orphan cars from various spec series and classes that got unpopular
- Crossover from the Time Trialers.

We'll see if there are more entries at Summit next month. One of the reasons my brother and I decided to make the haul down to VIR was rumors that the MA H1 field was one of the larger ones in the nation. So much for that...

we might have 1 or 2 h1 cars at njmp in a few weeks. 2 of the guys also have h2 cars and i know one will bring his h2 car instead. not sure about mr fries. i think andrew is coming with his h1 car tho.
