Help me with deciphering this tire
24/61-16 N 20 (intermediate)
What does the above figure mean?
I figure the 16 is the rim diameter...
Does 24 mean 240mm wide?
What is the 61?
What is the N?
What is the 20?
Thanks

I'm gonna take an educated guess at what is probably just the French sizing code.
The first two numbers definitely have to do with section width and aspect ratio somehow.
However, I believe that "24" doesn't necessarily mean "240mm wide" because the current rally-spec 20/65-18 Michelins are actually 228mm wide, by WRC maximum width regulations. Perhaps "1" on the scale equals 11.4mm (therefore, 20=228mm and 24=273.6mm)???
I'd also guess that the second number is the aspect ratio, in mm (or possibly in percent of width, like the North American sizing code).
The "N 20" must deal with the tire series and/or compound.
Going tarmac rallying with some nice expensive Michelins, are we?

Wish I knew better,
Jon

Dang - beat me to the punch. I guessed from the wacky numbers that it was a Michelin but it took me a little bit to find which one. We never did get the entire story here (like a brand name, which is pretty obvious on these tires), so my guess is that someone is suspicious that another someone is cheating. However it shakes out, there is some intrigue going on, I'll betcha. I will go out on a limb and guess that these are not DOT approved and that this is pertinent to the conversation...
