The elders of motorcycles always say how much is your head worth. I apply the same thing here and with my track helmet. I don't know how great of a helmet you can get for $150.

Maybe you only looked at recent topics and didn't look at archived topics?

I just did a search on archived topics in this forum with the word Helmets in the title. Here's what I got back:

You don't need an expensive helmet that will ONLY be used for autocross.

While autocross only requires a Motorcycle rating, you can get an open-faced Sports Application helmet for $150. G-Force and Pyrotect (designed by Bell) both make open-faced SA helmets at this price. Bell has their own designs that cost slightly more. A better idea would be to get at least a full-face M rated helmet, or even better, full-face SA rated. G-Force and Pyrotect make full-face SA helmets for $250 and up. The Bells will start in the low $300s, I think.

Whatever you get, it should probably at least be M2005 or SA2005 rated.

This will do fine for autocross. If you step up to HPDE's though, you'll need an SA rated helmet.

Look through here at the various M-rated helmets: http://www.extremesupply.com/H....html

Open face is a terrible idea IMO. Stick with full face.

You can get a Zamp full face SA2005 rated helmet for 199.99 on Jegs.com

And they look nice too, not too plain like the cheap helmets.

If you just want M-rated get a ZOX helmet, they're about 100 shipped on ebay, and full faced, with an amazing design.
