Helmet Outdated?
I have a question. If I have a sa2000 helmet, would I need to buy another in 2005? If a helmet is in perfect condition, are there any chance that that helmet will fail tech?
Thanks
Thanks
Maybe longer.
If HPDE usually 5 years longer than competition requirements.
Perfect condition has no bearing on situation. It goes by SA date code and current rule. However if helmet is damaged, date doesn't matter and the helmet is trash.
Current Competition Helmets are SA2000 and SA1995
Current HPDE Helmets are SA2000, SA1995, SA1990, M2000, M1995, and M1990.

No, but different groups use different rules. Most of the HPDE events that I've seen require either of the two most recent Snell standards, so right now they are requiring SA95 or SA2000.
When a new Snell standard comes out, it usually is issued slightly late, and then it takes a year or two before the helmets with the new standard are made, and in stock and available (they will be in short supply right after the new standard is issued). So most groups wait a couple of years before they stop accepting the earliest standard. Around 2007 or 2008, groups will no longer accept SA95 helmets.
Cliff's Notes Answer: Most HPDE groups will stop accepting your SA2000 helmet in 2012 or 2013.

Look up the registration information for any of the events/groups you're considering entering. They usually indicate which helmet standards they require.
