It refers to how you pull the straps to tighten. With a pull-down lap belt, the driver would pull the ends of the straps AWAY, whereas a pull-up lap belt the driver would pull the straps TOWARD himself. Hope that makes sense...

for the lap belts you'll more likely have more room to pull the straps up than down since it wont interfere with the race seat.

Get Pull Up.

I don't even know why they make pull down. The problem with pull down is that in order to tighten them you're actually pulling down into the seat, and if you're using racing seats there isn't anywhere to pull. Makes it really hard to tighten. Pulling up is easy, there is a bunch of space in which to pull.

If you want pull downs, get pull ups and we'll trade lap belts!

Default Pull ups

Better on the lap as said before, you can get them tighter and centered easier.

Also on the shoulders, I believe pullups are better for the Isaac.

Our lap belts are Simpson Pull-Up. The shoulder harness is Pull-Down. Thesetup works best for me with the Spraco REV seat. There is technically NO difference in the integrity or strength of the assembly in either format (pull-up or pull-down). You will find that the standard for the harness is almost always pull-down, btw. Don't forget to properly adjust the anti-sub belt or you will find the lap belts being drawn up too high when you pull the harness tight.

All shoulders are "pull down". I have never seen a pull up shoulder. pull downs work for alot of racers applications. Most often in production cars, or smaller cabin openwheel cars pullups are better simply because of the difference in tightening direction. Either system works as designed. If this is going into a production turned racecar, i would highly reccomend pull up belts in the new polyester webbing.

There are probably more pull-down sets sold than anything else. The easiest way to describe the difference between pull-down and pull-up lap belts. Pull-up laps are tightened by pulling toward the buckle. Pull-downs are tightened by pulling away from the buckle. It depends on how they are mounted on whether or not tightening interferes with the seat. G-Force harnesses do not have the mounting hardware sewn in so this can be adjusted also.

Whether or not you should use pull-ups or not depends on personal preference and type of car. If you have a formula or car with an extensive full cage, pull-ups may be a better choice, especially in a formula car where you may have a crew member tightening your harness. In just about anything else, pull-downs may work just fine. Then it just gets down to personal preference. Some people believe they can get the lap belts tighter with pull-ups. It's also easier to just grab the end of the belt and give it another tug when on track. The only drawback is that you have the loose ends in your lap.

As far as I know, all shoulder straps are pull-down.

I guess I'll be the voice of dissent again. For me, I've never liked pull-up lap belts. Seems like they're impossible to loosen. Maybe there's a trick that I just don't get.

My belts are pull-down and I've had no trouble getting them tight. I'd prefer pull-ups but the price was right on my set.
