Default The Gear Thread

A thread that belongs in in this forum.

What new gear did you pick up? What do you have that has made your wrenching/setup/racing better or more enjoyable?

From gloves to pyrometers, lids to speed bleeders, this is the thread for it. Hell we can even discuss tents and coolers.

Ill start it off.

The past week I have been looking at lids for my helmet, toying with the idea of purchasing one. I primarily autocross, and understand the need for eye protection from the sunlight. I wear a pair of Oakley sport glasses throughout the events and since I started, I noticed my eyes arent fatigued. They can be uncomfortable at times in the helmet, so iv been toying with the idea of getting the Amber lid shown below.

One: I wont need to wear sunglasses in the helmet.
Two: The amber may offer a bit better viewing of the course, filtering out un needed things like trees and... course workers.

Im also on the fence on a pair of OMP gloves, but ill save that for later.

I recently got the absolute BEST tools ever:

Milwaukee 18v Lithium Ion 1/2" cordless impact gun
Small gun = 183 ft/lbs with variable speed
Big Gun = 420 ft/lbs with variable speed

The small gun is super light, zips lugs off with ease and shares the battery with the big gun.
The bug gun zips off axle nuts and crankshaft pulley bolts without batting an eye.

Batteries last FOREVER! I used both guns at a triple race weeknd (4 days long) and neither battery discharged more than 1/2 way... Best Cordless Impact gun in the history of the world!

Yup! been using the 3/8's version for over a year at work. Batts last atleast a month of everyday use! Best cordless tools on the market!

Yeah last event I ended up going fishing instead, blasphemy I know. What color and any special lense?

I couldnt pull the trigger on an electric impact. Mostly because anytime im intending to take off something that requires an impact I have access to my air tools.

All I have been doing is getting gear sigh. I need to get on the track!

This is my most recent purchase...AC for the garage so I can work in the heat.

New HJC AR-10II with added shield

I also got a lot of other crap for my build and a Hans etc. The last thing I need is my cage done so I can get out to some events in the next few months.

Oct. NASA event at Sebring?

I got the helmet for $310 with 10% off the shield and helmet.

apexperformance.net hooks members of darksidede.com up with the discount.

I picked up a set of Alpinestars Tech 1-ZX gloves from saferacer about a month ago. I finally got out on the track with them and they feel absolutely amazing. The only thing I can see anyone having a problem with is the amount of grip in the fingers (note: each finger has a different 'grip') - however, the palm allows you to slide along the wheel. My wheel is leather wrapped (Ferrari Dino knockoff? from the 70's) and when i grab the wheel, there is no slip or hesitation. When i release my grip to let the wheel slide in my hands - there is no problem at all. Grip on the shifter is also something i've never noticed before... I never once was unsure when grabbing ahold of the ole shift **** (type-argh) and I was surprised how my fingers almost stick to it as I shift.. very cool!

Quality is great with the external stitching. I bought a Medium size (I was on the higher side of their glove fitment chart) and they are snug - which is waht I wanted. It seems like a Large would fit me also but I prefer the small size and I'm sure they will stretch out a bit.

Oh and they look blingin'

As my Dad always says "It's better to look good than to be good" (his excuse when something isn't going right on the car and doesn't want to deal with it)

Not exactly gear related, but I have a pair of black 949's on the way. Dont mean to mark out, but your pics helped the decision.
