FREE Guide to Racing & Mentor Program
Want to learn how you can begin participating in autocross, high performance driving events, time trials, and wheel-to-wheel club racing? How much does it actually cost and what can you do to make is less expensive? What’s necessary to become a front-running driver?
As part of making the entire contents of the book Go Ahead – Take the Wheel online for free, we’re also introducing a new Mentor Program. While there’s a ton of extremely information on the website, we also recognize that it’s also nice to speak directly with people who have already experienced what you’re going through now. It’s free, the people who have registered have a wealth of knowledge, and they truly want to help you!!
There’s a huge amount of information on the site already, but I’m working to add more including advanced topics. Just one example: Hoosier is working with me on a great article which will talk about things such rain tire technology and making the most of it (do they cycle out or is it based upon wear), is a sticker tire faster during a sprint race versus a properly heat cycled tire, and so forth.
Here’s the website: www.GoAheadTakeTheWheel.com
I Need Your Help!
This effort isn’t being lead by a large corporation (see About Us page on website), and in order for it to succeed it’s reliant upon word of mouth. Please take just a few minutes to help. Posting a link onto your Facebook or Twitter account, asking the region or club you race with to ad a link to their site, posting a thread on other chat forums about it. Anything you can do would be greatly appreciated and know it will help others get out on the track.
Thank you again for your continued support.

A couple people mentioned they like the mentor program idea, but didn't want to bother them or ask dumb questions.
The people who have volunteered to be mentors WANT to help you, and understand what it's like to be new at motorsports. We have a great diverse group of people willing to help with autocross, HPDEs, time trials and Club Racing. Take advantage of their offer!

David, I've been on board with this from the first day it was posted on PP. And I've recommended it to tons of people, I think this is pretty much the best thing to happen for novice drivers in a while, me being one of them. I'll send this to some of the big time autocrossers in my area and see if we can get this out. I need to get a hard copy of this as well.

Thank you!! I really, really appreciate the continued support. I have to say that I've often wanted to put it aside, but you guys keep motivating me to push on with it.
Things with this program are going well overall. What I've learned is there absolutely is interest from both students and mentors. As of this post, we have over 120 students enrolled.
I've received several e-mails from students stating that their mentors and this program have truly helped them. It's also been nice to hear from mentors that it's showed them not to take for granted what they've learned and passion for the sport. I know that personally some of the enthusiasm newbies have shown and willingness to do whatever it takes to get out on track has provided me motivation.
The majority of people (mentors & students) who have registered are geared towards SCCA. I need to find a way to reach out to NASA racers and prospects.

LOL I lost my student on the first email to him but he never responded.
Shoot me an e-mail with your students name and maybe you could re-send the e-mail if you have it otherwise I can send him or her a message.
Thought I'd provide a quick update:
Novices are certainly interested in this, so much so I'm having a difficult time keeping up. With the program, we're quickly approaching 200 students. I've also heard back from many stating just how helpful having a mentor they can contact on an occasion is. Thank you for your support with all of this.
At this point, we really could use some additional mentors! If you know of anyone whose familiar with the basics of autox, hpdes, and/or Club Racing, please send them our way.

We are getting alot of newbs on here asking the age old question.....Who what where why and how.
Send them off to us. Getting them to worry less about the car and more about the seat time.

Any thoughts on that program on Discover Channel-Rookies to Racers. I stumbled across this today. Seems interesting. Im too old for it, but I do plan on getting my 510 together to get out and do some Road Racing one day.
