A fellow HT'er has taken the path to the dark side. In his maiden voyage, said HT'er enters the world of karting:


It didn't take much to turn him. Just a ride in the trusty CR80 and that is all it took. Here are some more videos of my young padawan's first day out.

The first day out was a good litmus test to see if said padawan was equipped to tackle the world of karting. Overall, he scored high on his first time out. He only had 1 off road excursion all day long.

Overall, I was impressed on how easily my young padawan took to the track. It seemed to me that he knew what he was doing. He did have some issues with shifting that were soon resolved after a pit stop conference.

Mental note to padawan: Choke down after starting.

I love kart racing.

My uncle and cousin bought a Birel 100cc non-shifter for him to race at a local track here Dallas.

They haven't driven the thing in months, and he's going back to NY for college right now.

I've told them they need to let me run it on the weekends.

That kart is a blast to drive. I was amazed how fast you can run them through 90° turns. Only bad thing is I'm kinda out of shape so it wore me out quick.

I'd have been disappointed if he didn't go off the track or kick the front tire at least once. Now we know he's trying.

Indeed i see the force is strong in this youngling.
A bit timid in the downshifting in the esses, but for a first timer id say he did pretty darn good. Keeping the revs up while not over reving a tricky task for jedi in training.
Keep this one coming to the track regularly, and a good jedi will he be.
Makes me miss my CRG Road Rebel 125.

Yeah I realized who the "padawan" was from the first pic. White crx? Shifter kart? Receding hairline? I know that guy!!

Dixon right? Yeah that's less than an hour away for me. Let me know next time you'll be out there, I'm game to come hang out and check it out.

The first time I was out at Dixon back in '94 with my KT-100 kart, I went off so many times that they called me "Lawnmower Man". One time, I went off of turn 1 so hard that I got right back on the track at turn 3 (skipped the banked turn). The guy that I was following was faster than me, but I beat him to turn 3 and picked up about 5 lbs of dirt in the process.

got to get your fix where you can....
its cheaper to kart and the rush is just as good.
