Default Final Drive ?

I figured that one of you racers could answer this. When looking at the final drive #/ratio, is the lower the # the lower the gear, i.e. quicker acceleration?

Thanks

I am no racer... but the higher the number the quicker the acceleration.

4.4:1 = stock
5.1:1 = quicker

well its not quite that simple, but a higher gear ratio multiplies the torque more to the wheels then a lower gear ratio.

I sometimes use the following with the 4.750 final drive.

1 2.462 -
2 1.813
3 1.500
4 1.250
5 1.045

the higher the final drive the better... Example: JDM type R tranny is 4.785 whereas the usdm SI/GSR is 4.40. You can feel the difference big time between the gsr vs. the jdm type r. I love my SI tranny though, feels a lot like the JDM type R tranny, now all I need is an LSD...

Would it be worth putting in a 4.9 FD in a GSR tranny, or better to get a ITR tranny with the 4.4 FD?

choosing a final drive all depends in your setup and the type of driving you want, so choose carefully. but anyhow, to answer your ? about the FD, the higher the FD, the faster your acceleration will be.

personally, for autocross i run a itr trans with a ATS 4.928. you will need a 9,000 or more redline though. after topeka, i am going to experiment with a 9,500 redline.

The higher the number is numerically, the "lower" (shorter) the gearing will be, and the faster you will accelerate.
