Engine Oil of choice?
I used to be an Amsoil sales guy - a long time ago - and Kendall was the best performinig dino oil that we ran through the standard battery of tests. I decided that synthetics are fine but the tests sold me on Kendall, as a good value.

Dunno about Kendall, our BMW team was sponsored by them and we used their oil once, and it cost us a motor. From then on we used Redline in Kendall bottles. Was a pain always switching the oil in the bottles, but we were not willing to use the stuff.
As for Honda's, Mobil 1 seems fine for most of our stuff, the expensive motors use Motul. The Motul Race 5W30 was actuallly developed in conjuction with Mugen for use in Honda race motors. Can't get much better than actually designed for our motors.....

ive used german castrol syntec 0w-30 at the big track at willow springs and everything went smoothly.
this special castrol syntec actually has thicker viscosities than mobil 1 10w-30 at start-up and at operating temperature. the 0w doesnt reflect an oils viscosity, it just shows that it flows really well at low temperatures. best of all this motor oil is the only over the counter 30 weight motor oil that is "porsche approved".
i think that people should factor in when choosing a motor oil is that a 30wt. is a 30wt. at 100C or 212F. if temperature increases, the viscosity of an oil decrerases.

Been using Amsoil 0-30 and I've been very impressed with its longevity.
Going to Redline 5-30 because I bought some during the ioport sale last year. I expect not to be disappointed with the Redline either.

I was using synthetic for a long time, but with over 170K on the ticker I decided to switch the the cheaper stuff (not synthetic). The worst that could happen is that I need to rebuild it... oh the horror!
I run 5W-30 in the winter time, and switch to the thicker stuff during the summer or before the first autocross or track day event.

The researcher in me wants to know what tests you did on the oil that determined that it had failed. If someone showed you an engine that blowed up running M1, would that be enough evidence for you to quit using it?
Academically speaking of course. I can't help being interested when people make huge causal inferences based on essentially no data but this isn't a personal attack.
This however, might be...
By doing the bottle switch-and-bait thing, you chose to participate in the ongoing shyster-sponsor relationship BS that helps make "professional" road racing pretty much an unprofessional pursuit. Way to go!

I've never tried amsoil, but I've tried redline, and it created over 3x more wear in my engine than 5w30 M1. I was shocked. I was expecting virtually no wear, especially since I only left it in for 3,000 miles.
I've also tested 5w30 M1, and 10w30 M1, and for street use, the wear was identical. The 5w30 did lose more viscosity which is a bad thing. I think after 3000 miles it had broken down to a 20 weight oil!
Besise doing your own oil samples, one of the best places to look is the bobistheoilguy forum. People post the results from their oil samples here:
