Default Engine build

My motor:

Stock b20b with p8r head
Aem sri
Stock header
2.25 inch exhaust

I would like some recomendation on building the motor for track days as well as a realiable daily. No force induction just all motor. Im totally clueless when it comes to making power. Thanks!

It will make a heck of a track engine because of the displacement, and there has been some real success with this engine, but if you are looking for something that is legal to have in your car in California you are in for a disappointment.
B20B is out of a CRV which is a light truck engine.
No way it gets Bar'd.
Reality is should you get pulled over by the police, and they deem your engine illegal you will end up having to go to a state smog referee.
The police will send you on your way with a nice fix it ticket in your hand.
Once you take your car to the ref station they will tell you that you can't have the engine in the car. Obvious reasons.
Keep in mind you will have to either fix the car, and prove you have a legal engine in your car or you pay the fine plus court costs.
There will be alot of wasted time and money here.
This happened to me so it is from truth.

What kills me these days is "kids" buy a jdm engine.. slap it in the car of their choice and do a crappy job at that. drive it around until they have to smog/ re-register it then they try and dump the car and ask stupid amounts of money for something thats more of a headache than its worth.
Some JDM engines can be bar'd with replacement of certain components but not all of them.
The B20B cant be because it never went in a car to begin with.
Great for track but not for the street. However there are people who do it anyway.
To me not worth the effort and potential of lost time and money.
Just my .02

Dirty...thanks for the input and im quite aware of the engine being not legal in cali. Im in the process of purchasing anothe vehicle for a daily. I have heard the great potential of the engine, especially in tight/small tracks.

Interested in this also. I made a thread in the all-motor section looking for some input, but the thread didn't really get any replies. I like the idea that I can have a motor with a nice usable power band that will still run fine on 87 octane. I just had a b20z fall into my lap for a VERY reasonable price and I already have an 01 gsr trans and axles and a few other things, so my total commitment on the swap should be pretty low.

The only rub is that I'd like to do some auto-x in the car until I get the coupe running, looks like I'll be stuck in SM...

No class rules. Just looking to take the car to track days. Probly around 2-3k max. Based on my reading/research, cams, headers, trottle body and intake manifold should be change to maximize airflow. Looking to tke it to church or bisi for tuning purposes.

Hmmm might wanna rethink the class thing.
Once you get bit, and you have spent all that money you might be spending more to de-tune it for running it with a sanctioning body.
Just food for thought.

Mine is for my daily and the occasional auto-x to help satiate my need to do a little but of racing while the coupe is down. I wouldn't even be considering the swap if I didn't already have 50% of it in parts that I'm not going to re-use and/or my daily didn't have an oil-puking worn ringed y7 anyway.

But yeah, that is very soild advice. Not to mention that the money would be better spent on seat time and some chassis prep. Its better to learn to go fast in a slow casr than to end up just going slow in a fast car.

Ended up picking up that b20z. Already apart, block is at the machine shop getting honed. Pretty sure its gonna be good to go w/o an overbore, but waiting to get it back and measure it before I decide (hoping not to buy pistons). Head is junk... could be saved but I would end up with more in it than just getting a p8r and freshening it up. Totally worth $150 I spent on it.

Pics:

(2 of these... the reason I got it so cheap)

(looks way worse than it ended up being)

The results of a Wednesday night with a few tall boys:

Pistons all cleaned up real nice, no evidence of collision:

^ My fingers look so little in that pic for some reason!

I just built a pretty much to the rule b18b for SCCA STL if youre interested.

Mods will be similar for your b20

Rule of thumb states that you'll be better off with a 2.5" exhaust on a 2L 150-200 hp also.
