Just wondering how you guys Downshift to 3rd from 5th. i.e Rev to higher RPM then drop it or just drop it.

I always try to shift from 5th to 3rd just before hitting the rev limiter.

FWIW, this is on an ITR so YMMV.

Depending on the speed, I sometimes downshifted from 5th to 3rd. The key is to match the rev.

Rev match. I also put it into 4th, but not let the clutch out, then to 3rd. I have almost gone from 5th to 1st one too many times going into turn 1 at Roebling ~80MPH.

Yep, heel toe it, and you should have no problem getting it into 3rd smoothly.

Hard to answer the question without knowing the circumstance under which you'd want to do this. Also depends on your speed. But, as others have said, if you rev match and are at a speed that doesn't exceed the limits of your third gear, then you should be fine.

Are you braking (i.e., slowing for a corner) when you need to make this shift?

My mistake, I was refering to dropping into third from a roll not on a corner.
