Default door window

I did a search on this topic and nothing came up.

Im building a full road integra race car. I want to do the whole deal and im setting up the car right now. I was going to pull out the windows becasue i read the NASA rules and it said not to run door windows and use a window net, but it started to rain and it was a hassle to tarp up the car for bad weather. Is it okay for me to leave the window in and roll it down for racing with a window net? Im still going to use the inner door panel so the glass wouldnt be exposed. I think this would just be easier when the car is stored in my back yard.

thanks

That is something you can figure out with your cage builder. If it were me building it, the window would come out and nascar door bars would go in. Then you make a bracket that holds the window in when you transport and store the car.

Try keep question about the same car and cage in the same topic.
You may get on .RJ's annoying list!

Rules being what they are-you will find that you have the choice of doing NASCAR bars that penetrate the driver's door or not. If they do then the window must come out for clearance and the bracket/plexi idea is a great way to go. The passenger door is quite another matter. If I read the CCR(NASA) and GCR(SCCA) correctly you cannot penetrate the passenger door thus you must leave the window in the car. However, you MUST run the car on track with both windows down. The cage in an ITA/H4 CRX cannot have the passenger window interferred with-so ours remains stock. My fabricator put the NASCAR bars up against the inner door panel so that I could have the window for transport on an open trailer. Window nets are required regardless of whether you have windows. BTW: Most track day (HPDE) events will require you to lower both windows if there is a passenger seat in the car.

Ahhh, but he is planning on running Honda Challenge. In Honda Challenge, he can remove the glass & track in both front doors.

To answer the question, yes you can just role the window(s) down for competition. If you plan to go this route, keep the inner panals.

If you wanted, you could remove the inner panals. When you get to the track, you could remove the door glass. It would only require loosening two 6mm bolts per side.

Good thinking Civicrr.
Please note that our car is built for both ITA and HC H4. The HC rules you refer to (4.10-4.11) indeed permit one to fully remove the glass, etc. This differs from the ITCS and GCR rule as to the passenger side. Thus, I used the SCCA rule to insure compliance with both sanctioning bodies as to windows and cage requirements.

JC836 - so do you mean you 'have' to remove the window or you 'may' remove the window? are they giving us an option to do either or?

It appears in the HC rules that you have the option. Reread 4.10-4.11. I will also assume that you intend to have a NASCAR or X bar setup on the passenger side. Be very careful about your decision as it will impact your ability to prepare the car for Improved Touring (let alone sell it for that class). If it will always be an HC car, then proceed using only the HC and CCR rules. BTW, there is also a rule concerning the covering of the door panel in IT, but that is a different issue. More Q's drop a line and i'll try. MY NASA logbook is valid for the car as set up.

For IT (SCCA) you must retain the window glass, tracks, etc. You have the option of replacing the factory inner door panel with an alternative material (aluminum is what most use). The same rule applies to the drivers door. As an alternative, if your cage incorporates NASCAR bars on the drivers side, you can gut the driver's door to include the inner door panel, door glass, & associated tracks.

For Honda Challenge, you can remove the inner door panel, glass & tracks on both doors. If you remove the inner panel, then the glass must be removed. The idea is that if there isn't glass, it won't become flying 'knifes' in an accident.

The point about keeping the car legal for both org's rules is very valid. This can effect resale value & your ability to race with other groups. As stated, a legal IT car is legal for HC. A HC car built to the limit of the rules, won't be legal for IT.

BTW, you did read all the applicable rule books....didn't you?

I currently do not like the way I have my drivers window mounted while towing (although it works) and my passenger window motor just crapped out on me (Not sure if I want to spend the money on a new one, plus I can save a little weight by removing the regulator and glass - when racing). How do y'all attach your window(s) while getting the car to and from the track? Do you like the way your setup works? Does it hold out the rain? Are your windows easy to remove?
