i know there are a few people out there who have this unit, and plenty who have a hotlap. i had the transmitter sitting about 15ft from the track at a spot i'd be doing not much more than 50mph about 2.5' above the track. the infrared receiver in the car was ziptied to the rollcage, but was looking through a somewhat narrow piece of glass, it was probably closer to 3' off the ground. i tried changing the angle of things, but couldn't get it to ever pickup the signal.
any tips?
any tips?
I had zero issues my first outing with the XT lap timer. I'm also shooting through glass with only the AA batteries in the transmitter. Is your transmitter on a tripod? If not, I would suggest getting one so you can raise it up to the height of the receiver - that should help and I imagine that is probably your problem
I had a bad transmitter with mine. I sent it and the receiver back to XT Racing and they replaced the transmitter with no hassles.
15 feet is supposed to be the minimum distance for operation. Perhaps you were too close. Or two or more transmitters are supposed to cancel each other out. Were you sure there was only one transmitter?
If you are bench testing it, I recommend putting the transmittter in another room and just waving the receiver through the door way.
Good luck.

nah, i don't have a tripod. i figured the whole height thing was probably my issue, but wanted as many ideas as i could scrounge up.
i read through the users guide and 15ft was supposed to be the minimum for anything 100mph+, i had it placed at the slowest point on the track, no more than 50mph. i'll see if i can't test it out before my regional this weekend to make sure the transmitter works.

I had thought this too, but just this weekend I ran with only 2-3 feet (!!) between the receiver and the transmitter and it worked fine.
I also run my receiver through glass, FWIW.
