Default D15B Reliability

Hi,

I am thinking about dropping a D15B into my 90 Dx hatch. I am wondering if anyone has good or bad experience(s) with this motor in a lapping environment. has anyone experienced rod failure, whatever?

this vehicle is driven daily in the summer and sits in the winter (inside).

any input welcome.

I'm assuming you mean a JDM D15B (D16Z6 equivalent)? Those motors are pretty much bullet proof as long as you leave them alone. The newer D series (Y8) engines had oil starvation issues.

Thanks BauleyCivic,

that was the info I was looking for.

you were correct in your assumption. so it was the Y8 with the issues (we could not remember which engine it was).

You'll be fine. More or less same as a D16Z6 (if you're talking about the D15B VTEC).

The Y8's actually have good transmissions, the shift forks are steel instead of aluminum, making them less prone to failure. The best D-series motor combo is a Z6/JDM D15B with a Y8 tranny.

Always cover your behind. Id do a compression test on the engine to see what its health is. AFA D15/16 motors are concerned I wouldn't say they are bullet proof, nothing that old is.
The engines are relatively cheap still and bountiful enough even today.. From my personal experience I had an absolute blast running them. Most would say run it until it dies at least back in the day
Mods to the motor, intake and just run it.
FYI you revived a 14 year old thread, I havent seen any of these people in this forum in a very long while.
