Default CSP D16 Engine build???????????

Hey guys my father an I have moved his 88 CRX from STS2 to CSP this year. We have added a Quaife, light flywheel, and Kumho 710's. Now its time to get some more power. I have short term plans to have Maxbore enlarge the throttle body to 60mm, and replace the intake manifold with a Skunk2, then get back on the dyno and tune. Then over the off season we will have the head port matched and a new header by Bisi, or SMSP. I have a few noodyish questions... First is what kind of gains can I expect with a bored out tb and new im and a good tune? And is there anything else you guys could think of to get a few more ponies???

The car now has a 91 Si engine, AEM CAI, DC header, light weight crank pully, light weight flywheel, AEM cam gear (not installed yet), and blue printed injectors.

Any help would be great. We have 3 very well prepped Miatas in our area and I just feel that our 107 whp is just too low We were only .4 back this past weekend on a 50 sec course...

Welcome to CSP. My engine from last year was a basically stock D16A6 with around 50K miles on it. It has a TWM individual throttle body intake with a plenum I fabricated in carbon fiber. The exhaust is a custom header similar to Bisi's design but not nearly as good in my opinion. The head was port matched and milled .008" and I was using the stock cam pulley. I was using an Electromotive TEC II ecu and found it difficult to tune. Never was happy with the tune from it despite several tuning sessions. With that setup I managed around 120 HP at the wheels on a Dynojet dyno.

This year I'm rebuilding the engine with a .040" overbore, new bearings, adjustable cam gear, lighter clutch and flywheel (replacing a Mugen aluminum flywheel/clutch), lighter crank pully, crankcase evacuation system and a cold air intake tube. I'm ditching the TEC II and will replace it with a Megasquirt or maybe a Haltec if the budget allows.

The flywheel and clutch I ordered didn't fit right so I'm in the middle of redesigning a new (even lighter) flywheel to solve that problem. Looks like I'm probably a month from getting it running again but once it is and I've got a tune I'm happy with, I'll let you know what the numbers look like. I'm hoping for around 130 at the wheels and more top end power.

I've been running CRX's in CSP for around 10 years and I gotta say the new Miata's look like the car for the class now. I think I could hang with the NB Miatas but now they can run the super fat 15's and the NC's are on even fatter 18's. The other thing is the NB's can update/backdate to the 6-speed transmission to get the same effective gearing they had on the 13's while we're maxed out with the Si transmission and final drive. I'm still building the car because it's just the least cost option for me but will probably move to prepared or a different car soon. If your's is a Si you've got THE CAR for STS2, but super sticky 13's are SOOO much fun.

Pics of engine bay here. Ron Williams co-drove the car last year and managed to take 3rd at Nationals.

Thanx man.

We are just staying local with the car. I am judging myself against the other car in the class (I have only driven the car is CSP 3 times and I'm still getting used to the speeds) and against a National level DSP car and driver who lives up the street. I would love to throw 2-3K at the car but for local events its not really going to be worth it for us. So if a bored tb and new im can bolt on 8-10 hp for @ $350 I'm all over that. We also are going to get a kirky passanger seat and loose another 35lbs. My 61yo dad still drives the car to work about once a month and the faster we can make it the more I'm sure he will DD the car ... He just loves the car
