Default Corner Workers

I'm always a spectator at races, but I would like to get involved by being some sort of corner worker. Are any of you guys corner workers at any road courses? How were you able to get involved with that?

just look up the contact info for your local club office and get the number of the Flagging and Communications chief and tell them you are interested in joining. For the first few events, theyll pair you up with a more experienced person or two who will teach you the basics. they always welcome more help. alot of F&C ppl have been doing it for years and have a lot of advice, but its hard to get em every weekend, especially on friday events. and since they cant be paid, clubs usually have rewards programs which are nice too. as a driver in my club, i get free test days for working events, which is real money to me.

All the above, also ask around about course offered for corner workers. I know the DC region has one a year (not sure if it's DC SCCA or the track that runs it). There is some tedious classroom stuff, but they also set cars on fire and let you put them out and other neat stuff (to practice using the fire extinguishers).

At our recent NASA OH/IN events we have been doing a corner workers clinic either the night prior or the morning of events. Then running out new corner workers to work with the more experienced ones for the day. It is a lot of fun, and very educational. And you are right at the action! Corner workers also get $75 credit per day worked toward driving in our events.

We have an event coming up at BeaveRun Motorsports Complex just over the OH/IN border that we would like to invite you and any others to be a part of. We'll even throw in a shirt and $10 for lunch each day.(any of the workers from the past BeaveRun event who did not pick up their shirt or collect their money, please get in touch at mansier@zoominternet.net).

Hope you can make it. The suggestions on the SCCA schools are also very good. I know Nelson Ledges and Lake Erie hold one at Nelson Ledges each April that is well attended.

Drop me an e-mail to higdon@u.arizona.edu and I'll tell you who to get in touch with in the AZ area. You can even work toward free track days.
