Cheap Pyrometer
If you're considering purchasing an infrared pyrometer for this year's race season, consider what I just found. An IR Thermometer from Radio Shack for $30!

I haven't tried it yet; though from the specs it looks "good enough." Up to +/-2.5% error and up to 200 deg F is reasonable. Check it out!

its not worth getting a IR pyrometer. calibration to the material is necessary and it only reads the surface. while $30 is cheap, it may mislead your results. i've tried the cheap way wit ha cheap surface probe, its sorta useful, but you really gotta get it right off the track and after even a cool down lap the proper results are gone. then its not consistent while you read because the surface cools by the time you reach all 4 wheels.
check ebay for a longacre pyrometer. they sell for less than retail usually.
