Default Chassis data & calcs....

Here's a cleaned up version of some of my chassis data that I worked up for a fellow H-T member. Now that I burned up the night learning how to do more computer tricks here ya go:

Scott, who knows that this looks pretty bad....call it a relapse.....

Does the word "Spreadsheet" mean anything to you?

I guess if I have to ask what all that stuff is, then I shouldn't bother squinting at it too much.

Very impressive! Can you recommend some good reading material that can help a beginner understand all of this. Thanks!

One nit pick and a question:

Nit: When picking corner-weights, you assume the car weighs 2450#. Later in calculations for weight transfer, you used 2500. Or did I miss something? There. I feel better now

Question:
In the 380/250# cornering example, is it an assumption that max rear weight transfer will occur, bringing one rear wheel to 950# and the other to zero? I don't think that you can assume that. I bet there is less rear transfer and more front with such a soft rear spring. Inconsequential for the point you're trying to make, though!

Very compelling analysis, though! With accurate weight transfer information and tire slip-angle to force curves, you could get a numerical representation of oversteer/understeer. I've always wanted to do something like that

Scott - you're out of control. What's the "real world" use for this kind of stuff?

Did you take the arms off and measure the pick-up points? If you did send the (x,y,z) coordinates to me, and the hight of the spindle, and I can plot camber curves and bump steer with a program I have.

Or email me and I'll send you the program, its pretty small and simple but effective.

Hey Scott,

This page may help some of your readers understand some the numbers.

To give an idea of things like camber curves - as they relate to bump and to body roll. Which in turn helps me understand why the stiff rear springs on track-prepared Hondas are so effective.

Karl, who votes for Scott as our member of the year...

Adam - start with Puhn's "How to make you car handle".

Mike - 1) You caught me! That 50lb diff is an error. 2) You're right about the assumption about weight transfer (unless the soft rear has a really big swaybar). I thought it irrelevant to the purpose too.

Matt - I posted that data before.....geez, do a search.....oh, yeah, that won't work - there's nothing left to search in....I'll post some detail on that next week as well as the roll center sheets which are interesting too.

Scott, who will also finally post some pictures of his humble brake duct/diverters....
