Which chasis to build ?
Im looking to get back to road racing and autocross im torn between two chasis to build im either looking at an EF hatch or an EG hatch. Which one are most of you guys building and having the must luck with? Thanks in advance.
As much as i like the EF, I'd have to say that the EG is better.
A bit more aftermarket choices (a lot more if talking bling parts)
A slightly larger engine bay
On the minus side, i personally don't like the front suspension arrangement on the EG. The EG needs a lower H brace and doesn't have the lateral control links that when stiffened on the EF add a nice improvement in traction. Then again, the EG has those big rear bushings on the front LCA which also are easy to stiffen, so it's a close call.
EFs all have a front sway bar, and d15 EGs don't. For me, this is a minus because depending on your chasis you may have to change the front LCAs for ones with sway holes. (this ofcourse is not true if your target front sway par has other means of connecting to the LCA).... again it's not true if you start with a D16z6 or a B16a2 EG chassis
In the back, they are virtually the same except for the sway bar again, but both have minor pros and cons, so it really doesn't matter.
...just my thoughts on the subject and i'm sure i didn't help a lot in making the final choice, but i hope those thoughts help you with at least some pointers
Technically speaking, all i mentioned above (except the engine bay size) are different mechanical approaches and even though different, the EF and EG are hell close... i just love the EF look
ahhh i totally forgot.... take the EG, engine swaping options are much more abundant especially if you want a K-series in there or if your EF is actually an ED
