Default castle nut issue?

Has anyone had this happen or seen this before? The only thing I can think of is the rotor is flexing but I dont see any contact on the rotors...The ball joint bolt was even sawed down on one side. This happened the last time i ran Sebring.

You hitting the kerbs at the track?

It might be from hitting the kerbs on the turns.
I've seen it before on my car but no damage to the ball joints.

well that makes more sense than the rotors. sebring has some gnarly rumble strips that could easily cause damage like this.

thanks dirty, i was looking at it today with a friend since im tearing everything down and rebuilding again....we just kept looking in that area and were like wtf no marks or anything anywhere else.

thats when i said to my friend those cali guys will know on h-t lol!

i still dont get how it could get in there

Its happened to me at least twice on tracks that have some high rumble strips.
I try to stay off those as the upper control arms can slap the shock towers from it.
Just inspect the suspension thoroughly, and replace the nuts.

With your wheel (suspension) at full compression, you could be getting contact between the rotor and the nut. I've had it happen to me, and that's on an autocross car (all be it too low and too soft).

brake rotor was my first thought im just not seeing any contact on the brake rotor, my suspension is not slammed and its a pretty stiff setup 500f/800r custom valved progress coilovers.

this is obviously on the lower ball joint.

Yep, happened to me all the time, but I would be up on gators pretty good. Never became an actual issue, so I'd just keep an eye on the nut and replace as needed.

Happened to a couple others too. Its got to be rubbing the rotor. Theres nothing else for it to rub.

do you have roll adjusters? and yea, your rotor is hitting the nut. if you look under the car when it has full load, you should see it hitting or look pretty close to hitting it.

You would have to have a pretty low offset wheel for kerbing to hit the castle nut. At least on my car, that is well inboard of the edge of the wheel.

Also, if you added a camber kit upper control arm to dial out negative camber, you would exacerbate the issue further. I'd inspect the wheel bearings for play too.

Thanks for everyones input. I'm sure it's hitting the rotors, I'm running the 11in fast brakes kit. With load it's very close but I never thought it would hit.

My guess is the rotor smoothed out with the pad after awhile making it not visible on the actual rotor.

Wheels bearings are almost brand new, Like a couple thousand miles.

It might be an issue on one side because the lower ball joint bolt has been filed down

It was always more of a problem for me on the driver's side than passenger side. I'd get it even with brand-new wheel bearings, though I could see how worn out ones would affect that.

That's funny because the balljoint that's going to need to be replaced is on the passenger side.

Have you found a way to prevent it? I guess raising the car or less camber maybe.

No, I figured sacrificing that nut was worth the better tire wear and so on.
