Brakes????
I searched and couldnt find what i was looking for.
I have a 97 EK HB with drum rear brakes and need advice on what brake set up would give me good stopping power but good balance for DD and track days? What do you guys run?

I know it's hard to find but you might have to look for a while. I have a DC2 so i don't know how much my information will help you. But you are going to want to swap your drums for rotors on the rear. Search for this you will find what you need. Then you will want better pads and a high temp fluid. I have SS lines also. If you have alot of cash then you could probably go with a big brake kit and really save a step, but i don't know what class you are trying to compete in or how much HP your car has. Good luck
What about the proportioning valve and master cylinder? I had a friend with a crx and he had rear disc with the stock proportioning valve and master cylinder and diff pads and braided lines and his brakes always would lock up. I would hate to be going into corner and dive into the brakes and they lock up and then lose control. What do you think?
like i said i have a dc2 and not had to change from drums to disks...It seems like you are well on your way to having an idea how to do this. I think Honda tuning mag did an article on this like 2 months ago. I for sure can't give you a parts list.

yea. engine and hpde level would help.
stock single slam, street tire-stock brake set-up with good pads will do the job
b-series, street tire-i'd just go right to 11" and be done.
as for the rear disc, its more for better brake feel than anything else. i have them on my car and realy could care less about them. i put the correct prop valve in and some axxis ultimates and that was that. gt-sports seemed to be too much as i got alot of rear lock up.

Prop Valve part numbers are the same for '96-00 DX's as they are for '99-'00 si's with rear discs. For this reason, we did not change the prop valve out on my pops' '97 DX coupe when installing rear discs. He already had the 15/16" MC so that was left untouched as well.
So...your prop valve and MC can stay if you're taking it easy on track and on the street. If you want to step it up I say grab a 1" ITR MC and booster. I agree with everything Lo-buck said, but would ask if you plan on running r-compounds eventually as well?
Check out http://www.fastbrakes.com. I run their 11" kit with wilwood calipers on my CRX Hf
(Hawk Blues front/Porterfield R4S rear)

Consider the larger front brakes from the 96-00EX and 99-00SI. If you keep rear drums then you will need the prop valve, mc, and booster from the 96-00EX.
As for pads, I run carbotech bobcats on the street. And just picked up a set of carbotech XP10's for the front for my next track weekend. I just swap front rotors/pads for events.

+1 for Carbotech pads.
I would suggest at least the 10.2 in EX or SI front disk setup or even better yet get the 11" kit from fastbrakes.

I think someone does, but I've read that they're not as good to run as regular shoes.

Yes, just keep them adjusted. Adjusting my brakes made a huge difference in pedal feel on my car.

my .02 for 97 civic hatch's brakes...keep your knuckles, use (90-01 teg, 90-91 civic ex, 99-00 si) 10.3" rotors & 17cl15vn integra type-r brake calipers
the itr calipers can be found at the junkyards & are stamped 17cl15vn. look for +97 prelude, accord wagon, cr-v, itr, older legends, rl, tl, cl, vigor, etc. the bracket should be labelled 23T or 25T and must be sent to the machine shop to mill away 2-3 mm or 1/8" for rotor clearance. pm brakeexpert
he machined my brackets & does great work !
this mod will allow you to use the 2-piston legend & nsx calipers on this set-up as well on your DX knuckles
