Auto-x Classification Question
I have a 91 civic std hatch. I have read the section of authorized modifications allowable for sts class several times. My question involves this paragraph:
A. Equipment and/or specifications may be exchanged between different years and models of a vehicle if:
(1) the item is standard on the year/model from which it was taken,
(2) the years/models are listed on the same line of Appendix A (Street Prepared Classes)
The updated/backdated part or the part to which it is to be attached may not be altered, modified, machined, or otherwise changed to facilitate the updating/backdating allowance. The updating and/or backdating of engines, transmissions, or transaxles must be done as a complete unit as available from the factory, including those items required by emissions regulations for a particular configuration. Example: the Neon throttle body used on automatic transmission cars cannot be used on a manual transmission car. Component parts of these units may not be interchanged. Cars not listed in the Street Prepared sections of Appendix A may not be updated/backdated until approved by the SEB and published in SportsCar magazine.
Now this brings up a very important issue for me. My current motor is a 1.5l dpfi w/ 4spd tranny. It is burning oil badly, and I need to replace it. Can i swap in a motor/tranny/ecu from the same gen civic si? Does this allow jdm models? I'm reffering directly to the sohc or dohc ZC motors. By the way my car & the si are listed on the same line of appendix A.

I have to put a new motor in my car, due to the condition of my current one. So, would it be worth waiting to put a more powerful b series in it? What class would a swap put me in?
Also, another question, are carbon fiber hoods legal/what class?
I have been checking out the rules listed http://www.moutons.org/sccasolo/...are these up to date?

As long as you haven't gutted the car, the B-motor or any Honda/Acura engine swap would put you into Street Modified (SM). So would the CF hood.
Jerry Moutons site is probably only 100% accurate to 2002 rules. He's tried to update the major 2003/2004 changes but doesn't have everything like the elimination of the STS update/backdate rule to prevent the dreaded "FrankenCivic". FYI, when it was legal you could only update to USDM Si engine/drivetrain (no JDM ZC, etc.)
You should get a 2004 rulebook and also check SCCA's mainsite for the 2004 Fastrack additions since some things have changed since its publication.

an engine swap would put you into SM, and i believe CF hoods are first legal in SM.

Not that I necesarily agree with the SCCA not publishing online like NASA, but it's better to spend a few bucks now and know you're right, then to spend the time and money on an engine transplant only to find out you are illegal.
