another rt-615 vs rs2 thread
alright, i think its safe to say that they are both great tires, and the common complaint everyone has about the falkens is they get 'greasy' once hot. my question is, how long and hard do you drive em for them to get 'greasy' and does the hankooks have the same problem?
Search number 1 as this has been covered, or google search as it has been covered in other forums as well (i.e. Nasioc, scca, ect)
number two, the Azenis do get greasy after awhile (not too sure what awhile is as it depends on the speed/corning/temp outside/track condition) but what I noticed more that the rs2's (z212's) wear slower and are a bit more predictable at the limit. I have used both and currently have both, Azenis' on my crx and Kook's on my wrx wagon... we are also using kook's (two sets) on our 24hours of LeMons race car because of the wear rate and predictability when hot.
The Azenis' have much much firmer side walls and they are a bit wider for the same size tire.

i have searched both on honda-tech, miata.net, and google, and so far they've all just covered the same thing "azenis has a little more grip, but gets greasy" and the hankooks wear a little better, but has noticeably softer sidewalls.
but what you say about the hankooks having more predictable break away is new to me, that is something that im looking for, since im a amateur and i'd rather have a tire thats more forgiving then one thats has a little more grip. and also, i live in oregon so it rains alot, the car wont see too much daily driving, but it will, and i was wondering how each tire fairs in the rain?

the rs2 are wider measured out, i ran them last slush season at the autox they were awsome all around even wet, then went to azeniz since they are "faster", personaly i like the rs2 a lot better then the azeniz, it felt as if the rs2 have more grip, but they are more preticable which is nicer, plus i was throwing down faster times with the rs2 then the azeniz. i would say neither are better then the other, it just depends on the driver.
You know this year I got lazy and didn't cool my Azenis like I did in previous years. My times were always getting faster throughout my runs. And most people say I'm a consistent driver. Previous years I would water my tires and my fastest run was always my 1st.

Oh, then you're talking about someone like ME!

And now a shameless plug for our team
And a photo of one of our "custom" wheels in the making (they still need paint and custom "plus sizing")

Never drove RT-615's, but I currently own RS-2's in 205/45/16. Very predictable. I'll be going to my first HPDE on them, i'll be able to really judge them then.

i would if i could!
...the only tires in my price range right now are ES100s, T1-Rs, RT-615s, and RS2.
so this is what im getting so far, overall grip the rt-615 beats the hankooks. but the hankooks has better tread life, is more forgiving and predictable at the limits, but suffers a softer sidewall (which im assuming contributes to its forgivingness). im really leaning towards the kooks now, becuase like stated above, im a amateur, and a more forgiving and predictable tire is a priority slightly above maxmium grip. and can anyone comment for the wet performance between the kooks and the falken?

I guess we are grassroots bastards then... if you go to the Link that Colin posted and click on modifications and then go to wheels and tires you can see our two fresh sets of rs2's.

Yes... I can, I have little experiance on the Azenis in the rain but I did drive the first 3 days of rain here on my Azenis at 98%tread depth and theyare ok but I will say that the design of the Kooks works better for wet weather driving. I can't really comment on the wet driving of the Kooks being that they are on my wrx wagon (awd) but they do still handle great in the wet from what I can tell... I can still drive about 9/10ths in the rain in my suby where as on the stock tires (re92's rain/snow/mud tires) I can only do about 6/10ths due to severe understeer.
On a side note, the hankooks work great on dry pavment if you run the front forward facing and the rears flipped so they are actually going againsy direction. The last auto-x I went to there was a EF working it and that he was running them that way.
Also RS2's can be flipped on rims and used further if you do use them on a daily driver with camber wear as they are directional but not side specific like the Azenis (outside marked).

Either tire should be fine in the wet at full tread depth, but I would expect the Hankooks to be better when they wear down because they have more grooves and void than Azenis.
I've autoxed on both tires quite a bit, and done 1 HPDE on the Hankooks. I agree that the Azenis' have more ultimate grip and are a better autocross tire, but I went with Hankooks specifically to use them for HPDE/TimeTrials where they can take more heat without getting greasy like the Azenis.
here's a 225/45-15 Hankook RS2 with less than 50% tread on a 15x7 wheel, just after a 40 minute track session:

hrmm, so the kooks can take more heat and extended periods of track abuse huh? ok, i think im pretty set on the hankooks now.
