Default Primer question

Hey guys new to the forum here. I'm fixing rust work on my driver side floor panel and I layed the first coat of rustoleum to keep rust away. While I was waiting for the first coat to dry I was reading the label and it said to use primer on bare metal first then coat it with rustoleum. I know the smart thing to do is to remove it and just primer to be safe but that's a lot of work. Would I be okay with just rustoleum and no primer? Or should I strip it all back

Rustoleum is an enamel and doesn't need primer to adhere, but regardless I think you'd be safer putting a bare metal primer down first.
